Billing

Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) is currently free of charge. Any changes to this policy will be announced in advance on the official Alibaba Cloud website. For Alibaba Cloud accounts that have completed real-name verification, the service automatically renews for one year upon expiration.

Application and configuration

Step 1: Apply for Alibaba Mail (Free Edition)

  1. Go to the Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) purchase page.

  2. Enter your domain name and select a subscription duration.

    1. For Mailbox Domain, select Existing Domain and enter your domain name, such as example.com.

      1. Existing Domain: If you already own a domain that is not associated with an email service, you can enter its address. Both root domains and subdomains are supported.

      2. Don't have a domain? Register a new one.: You must bind your Alibaba Mail service to a custom domain name to use addresses like user@example.com. We recommend registering a domain name in advance.

    2. For Subscription Duration, select 1 year.

  3. Read and agree to the service agreement, and then complete the purchase at no cost.

Step 2: Add DNS records

Point your domain name to the Alibaba Mail servers to ensure you can send and receive emails correctly. When you set up DNS records for the first time, it typically takes about 10 minutes for the changes to take effect.

Important

You must complete the domain name resolution and ensure it takes effect within 7 days of a successful application. If you fail to do so, the system automatically revokes this email service, and you will need to apply again.

  1. Go to the Alibaba Mail console and find your Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) instance on the All Mailboxes tab.

  2. Find the instance with the product name Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) and click Manage to open the email management interface.

  3. Click Set up DNS.

    • If your domain was purchased from Alibaba Cloud, you can click One-click DNS setup.

      image

    • If your domain is managed by another provider, you must configure the DNS records with your authoritative DNS provider. For an example of how to configure records by using Alibaba Cloud DNS, see Add email DNS records.

Step 3: Create mailbox accounts

Log on to the Alibaba Mail admin console to start creating mailbox accounts for your team members, such as user@example.com.

  1. Go to Alibaba Mail and log on with your postmaster account (postmaster@your-domain.com) and password. If you have not set a password for the postmaster account, see Reset the password for the postmaster administrator account.

  2. After you enter the admin console, you can create mailbox accounts. For more information, see Manage organizations and users.

Upgrade

If the quotas or features of Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) no longer meet your business needs, you can upgrade to the Standard or Group Edition at any time. This gives you more storage, more accounts, and advanced features like email archiving and email monitoring. Your data will be seamlessly migrated during the upgrade process.

Important

You can upgrade Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) only to the Standard Edition. To upgrade to the Premium Edition, you must first upgrade from the Free Edition to the Standard Edition.

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud console and click the Upgrade button next to your Alibaba Mail (Free Edition) instance to begin the upgrade process.
