This topic describes the features of OceanBase Database 4.x. Version 4.x offers more instance specifications, an improved O&M experience, enhanced performance, higher availability, and greater cost efficiency.

More instance specifications

OceanBase Database 4.x supports a wider range of instance specifications. The smallest supported configuration is a single-node deployment with 4 vCPUs and 16 GiB of memory. This supports customers throughout their business lifecycle, from small to large scale. In the cloud, it meets the needs of micro and small businesses, lowering the adoption barrier for distributed databases. OceanBase Database 4.x is compatible with MySQL 8.0 and supports additional SQL modes and functions, helping customers migrate workloads to the cloud smoothly.

Better O&M experience

Full-stack solution: OceanBase 4.x is available on Alibaba Cloud as a full-stack solution, significantly improving the usability of OceanBase Database O&M.

Data Management (cloud platform and OCP integration) provides end-to-end diagnostics and services. It quickly identifies abnormal SQL statements in the database kernel and offers real-time monitoring of execution plans to ensure continuous SQL performance optimization.

Data migration (OMS):

  • Monitors and observes performance across the entire data transmission chain.

  • Collects additional performance statistics, including statistics for incremental sync SQL statements.

  • Greatly improves sync diagnostics. It includes over 100 error codes and built-in analysis tools to help troubleshoot sync issues.

  • Supports incremental DDL synchronization across heterogeneous databases. It provides best practices for heterogeneous data transmission and enables automatic conversion.

  • Supports dynamic addition or removal of tables during full and incremental sync, which reduces the O&M task scope.

Migration Evaluation (OMA):

  • Introduces a migration feasibility report that analyzes overall migration feasibility to OceanBase from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives. It lists potential risks and delivers a comprehensive migration recommendation for distributed upgrades to OceanBase.

  • It builds on tenant specifications and configurations, partitioned table and index optimization, table group recommendations, source database table analysis, dynamic SQL analysis, and proven best practices for migrating to OceanBase to deliver an upgraded distributed migration recommendation.

Data Development (ODC):

  • Stability: It greatly improves PL compilation capability and stability.

  • Security: It enhances change control workflows and supports custom task workflows and data export with data masking.

  • Usability: It provides unified Bastionhost and approval integration, supports multiple themes, and upgrades interactions for core features.

Stronger product performance

Peak TP write performance increases by 50%. AP scenario performance is also optimized. Complex query optimization (operator optimization), execution plan optimization, parallel execution, and resource isolation (IOPS isolation) enhance TPC-DS query speed and significantly boost AP scenario performance.

Higher availability

Recovery time objective (RTO) is under 8 seconds. This version optimizes leader election and log management modules, no longer depends on NTP clock synchronization, and restores database service faster. Disaster recovery is reduced from minute-level to second-level.

Better cost efficiency

It supports archive databases, low-cost storage, and database consolidation to achieve low cost while maintaining high availability.
