Rules for the tenant instance free trial
To meet the demand for smaller instance types for trial purposes, OceanBase Database has launched a 1C4GB tenant instance that uses MySQL syntax. This instance is available for a free trial and can be renewed. This cost-effective instance type lets you better experience OceanBase. We invite all OceanBase users to join the trial and provide valuable feedback.
Overview of tenant instances
With the unique tenant isolation technology of OceanBase, a large cluster is virtually isolated by tenant to provide an independent compute resource. This resource can be used as a standalone database instance. A tenant instance lets you create databases and tables, and independently serves applications.
Currently, only shared tenant instances are available. The available instance types are 1C4G and 2C8G. Shared instances use a common control plane and storage. The CPU and memory of a tenant instance are dedicated, which prevents interference between tenants in the same cluster. However, shared storage may cause interference. The Service-Level Agreement (SLA) for a tenant instance is lower than that of a cluster instance.

Migration from tenant instances to cluster instances is not currently supported. This feature will be added in a future release.
Scenarios for tenant instances
Tenant instances are designed for developers or for scenarios with small data volumes. They are suitable for use cases that do not require very high availability. Do not use them for high-availability scenarios, such as core business applications.

How to apply
After you apply for a free trial of a tenant instance, you cannot apply for a free trial of a cluster instance.
Click the registration link to submit your application. No approval is required. After submission, go to the Alibaba Cloud website to obtain a subscription tenant instance for free. The free trial lasts for 30 days. Each user is limited to one 1C4GB OceanBase tenant instance.
Trial instructions
After the one-month trial, you can renew the instance to continue using it.
Trial instances are not covered by the SLA. After you purchase or renew the instance, it is covered by the SLA. Tenant instances have a guaranteed availability of up to 99.9%.
Each user receives 10 GB of free storage space during the trial period. Usage beyond this limit is charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. For more information, see Billing methods for storage classes.
