Change the billing method

You can switch the billing method for a data synchronization or change tracking task between pay-as-you-go and subscription based on your business needs. This change does not interrupt the DTS instance.

Considerations

  • In the new console, you can switch between pay-as-you-go and subscription in both directions. In the old console, you can switch only from pay-as-you-go to subscription. We recommend that you use the new console.

  • Data migration tasks use the pay-as-you-go billing method, which cannot be changed.

  • To convert a regular synchronization instance to a Serverless instance, see Convert a synchronization instance to a Serverless instance.

  • In the new console, the instance ID remains the same after the conversion. In the old console, the instance ID changes.

  • You cannot switch an existing pay-as-you-go change tracking instance to the Half-price Configuration Fee + CNY 1 per GB for Data Traffic Fee billing method. This billing method is available only when you purchase a pay-as-you-go DTS change tracking instance for a MySQL source database on the purchase page.

  • If you change a subscription instance to pay-as-you-go, the remaining balance is refunded to your original payment method.

  • Data verification tasks do not support billing method changes.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a DTS data synchronization, Serverless, or change tracking instance.

  • If you use the old console to change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription, you must have a subscription task to use as the target for the conversion. This subscription task must meet the following requirements:

    • Data synchronization tasks: The The username of the source instance , Source Region, Destination Instance, Destination Region, and Synchronization Topology must be the same as those of the original data synchronization task.

    • Change tracking tasks: The Subscription Instance Type and Source Region must be the same as those of the original change tracking task.

Billing methods

Billing method

Description

Subscription

  • Also known as prepaid. You pay for the instance when you create it.

  • This billing method is suitable for long-term needs. It is more cost-effective than pay-as-you-go, and longer subscription durations provide larger discounts.

Pay-as-you-go

  • Also known as post-paid. DTS generates an order every hour and deducts the fee from your Alibaba Cloud account based on the instance type at the time the order is generated.

  • This billing method is suitable for short-term needs. You can release the instance immediately after use to save costs.

Serverless

A dynamic billing method that adjusts resources at the minute level based on instance workload and bills you in real time. An order is generated every hour. You pay only for your actual usage, which can significantly reduce costs.

Procedure (New console)

  1. Go to the Data Synchronization or Change Tracking task list page in the target region.

    DTS console

    1. Log on to the Data Transmission Service (DTS) console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Data Synchronization or Change Tracking.

    3. In the upper-left corner of the page, select the region of the DTS instance.

    DMS console

    Note

    The actual steps may vary depending on the mode and layout of the Data Management Service (DMS) console. For more information, see Simple mode and Customize the layout and style of the DMS console.

    1. Log on to the Data Management Service (DMS) console.

    2. In the top menu bar, choose Data + AI > Data Transmission (DTS) > Data Synchronization or Data + AI > Data Transmission (DTS) > Change Tracking.

    3. On the right side of the Data Synchronization Tasks or Change Tracking Tasks list, select the region of the DTS instance.

  2. Locate the target DTS instance. In the Billing Method column, click Change to Pay-as-you-go or Change to Subscription.

    Note

    For data synchronization and change tracking instances, you can also click the 更多图标 icon in the Actions column and select Change to Pay-as-you-go or Change to Subscription.

  3. Verify the information.

    The dialog box that appears varies based on the conversion direction:

    • Subscription or Serverless to pay-as-you-go: In the dialog box that appears, verify the Basic Information of the target instance.

    • Pay-as-you-go to subscription: In the dialog box that appears, verify the Basic Information of the target instance, and in the New Instance Class section, select a Subscription Duration.

      Note

      Auto Renewal is selected by default.

  4. After you confirm that the information is correct, read and select Data Transmission Service (Pay-as-you-go) Service Terms.

  5. Click Pay.

Procedure (Old console)

  1. Log on to the DTS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Data Synchronization or Change Tracking.

  3. Find the target task and in the Operation column, click Change to Subscription.

  4. In the Change to Subscription dialog box, select the pay-as-you-go instance to convert.

    Note

    DTS releases the corresponding pay-as-you-go task after the change.

  5. Click OK.

FAQ

  • Does changing the billing method affect past charges?

    No.

  • If an instance is changed from subscription to pay-as-you-go, how is the refund calculated?
