What Is the Basic Principle of DTS Incremental Migration? Does It Ensure Real-time Synchronization Between the Source and Destination Databases? Does It Lock Tables During Incremental Migration?

Updated at:
  • During incremental migration, Data Transmission Service (DTS) captures incremental data from the source database in real time. After the full data migration is complete, DTS synchronizes this incremental data to the destination RDS instance.

  • When the incremental migration is synchronized with the source database, the migration status shows zero latency. DTS then continuously synchronizes new writes from the source database.

  • DTS does not lock tables in the source database during full or incremental data migration. As a result, the source tables remain available for read and write access throughout the migration process.

  • The binlog starting point for incremental migration is determined by the actual start time of the task, not the time when the task is created. If you create a synchronization or migration task in advance without starting it, the actual start time is used as the starting point for incremental migration when you later start the task. Data changes made between task creation and task start are not retroactively synchronized.
