Switch the direction of a two-way synchronization instance
Data Transmission Service (DTS) lets you switch the direction of a two-way synchronization instance. This simplifies switchovers between primary and standby databases or across cloud environments, as you can reverse the data flow without reconfiguring the instance.
Background information
To ensure the stability of two-way synchronization instances, DTS synchronizes DDL operations only from the current forward task to the destination database. If you need to synchronize DDL operations from the reverse task, you must first switch the instance's direction. This action makes the original reverse task the new forward task, allowing its DDL operations to be synchronized and ensuring data consistency.
Prerequisites
-
You have created a two-way synchronization instance. For details, see the relevant configuration documentation in Synchronization solution overview.
-
The Status of both the forward and reverse tasks must be Running or Paused.
Usage notes
-
You cannot switch the direction of a distributed two-way synchronization instance.
-
Modifying data during the direction switch can cause data inconsistency between the source and destination databases.
-
After you switch the direction, the original forward and reverse tasks are swapped.
ImportantOnly DDL operations from the current forward task are synchronized to the destination database.
-
After you switch the direction, if you must perform DDL operations on the current reverse task, switch the direction of the instance again before you perform the DDL operations. This ensures data consistency.
Procedure
-
Go to the Data Synchronization Tasks page.
-
Log on to the DMS console.
-
In the top navigation bar, click Data + AI.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
Note-
Operations may vary based on the mode and layout of the DMS console. For more information, see Simple mode console and Customize DMS console layout and style.
-
You can also go to the Data Synchronization Tasks page of the new DTS console.
-
-
On the right side of the forward task of the target two-way synchronization instance, choose .
-
In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
The direction switch is complete when the Status of both the forward and reverse tasks is Running.
