How to transfer a domain name to another Alibaba Cloud account-Domain Names(Domain)-阿里云帮助中心

Transfer a domain name between Alibaba Cloud accounts to centralize management or reassign permissions. This changes only the managing account — the registrant, expiration date, DNS, ICP filing, and SSL certificate are unaffected. To change ownership or registrant information, Modify registrant information.

Common use cases:

Centralizing management: Transfer a domain name from an employee's personal account to a company account.
Transferring permissions: Move a domain name to a new account when an employee leaves.
Aligning with business structure: Adjusting the account ownership of the domain name for ICP filing purposes.
Simplifying renewals: Consolidate domain names into one account to streamline renewals.

Choose a transfer method

Choose a method based on your situation:

Online transfer: Use this method if you can log on to the Alibaba Cloud account that currently manages the domain name and the domain name is not expired.
Offline transfer: Use this method if you cannot log on to the account, have forgotten the password, the domain name has expired and cannot be renewed, or a proxy is uncooperative with the transfer.

Online transfer

Step 1: Perform pre-transfer checks

Verify the following before you start.

Check item	Requirements and instructions
Domain name validity	The domain name must be active. If expired, renew it before transferring. If you cannot renew the domain name but need to transfer it, try an offline transfer.
Identity verification	For domain names, the registrant must complete identity verification.
Registration date	The domain name must meet a minimum registration period. (Typically, more than 7 days for ".cn" domain names and more than 1 day for ".com" and ".net" domain names.) The console displays the specific requirement.
Account type	Initiate the transfer from the source Alibaba Cloud account. RAM users cannot perform this operation. The domain name must be under a regular user account. You cannot transfer a domain name to a HiChina agent account. Direct transfers between China site and international site accounts are not supported. Instead, transfer the domain name away from Alibaba Cloud from the source account, then transfer it back in to the destination account. This incurs a fee and extends registration by one year.

Step 2: Initiate the transfer

The source account must perform the following steps:

Go to the transfer page.

Log on to the Domain Names console. On the Domain Names page, select the domain names to transfer and click Transfer To Another Account.

For batch transfers: Select multiple domain names to transfer to the same account.
Enter information and submit: Follow the on-screen prompts to enter the Login ID Or Account ID Of The Other Party (the destination account).

Important
This operation is irreversible. The destination account gains full management rights immediately. Verify the destination account ID before proceeding.

After completing the SMS verification, click Submit. The transfer takes effect immediately. Ensure that the account or UID you entered is correct.
Note
- If your mobile phone cannot receive the verification code, change your phone number.
- If the verification phone number is not the one associated with the current account, it might be because this account was previously linked to your 1688.com account. You must verify the phone number associated with the 1688.com account. If you can no longer receive verification codes on that phone, submit a ticket to change it.

Step 3: Check the transfer result

The transfer takes effect immediately without confirmation from the destination account.

Source account (original account): The domain name is no longer listed in the source account. The transfer record is available in Operation Logs.
Destination account: The domain name is now listed in the destination account's Domain Names list.

Offline transfer

Important

After a successful offline transfer, the domain name is locked for 30 calendar days and cannot be transferred again until the lock expires.

Use offline transfer when online transfer is not possible:

The account credentials cannot be retrieved.
The domain was registered through a channel partner (proxy), and the partner's account is not available for online transfer.
The domain name has expired.

Step 1: Perform pre-transfer checks

Before an offline transfer, ensure that the destination Alibaba Cloud account (Account B) has completed identity verification, and the verified entity is the same as the domain name registrant.

If the destination account lacks identity verification, or the verified entity does not match the registrant, first complete the account identity verification or change the verified entity.
If the destination party is a company or individual from outside the Chinese mainland and cannot complete Alibaba Cloud account identity verification, you must:
- Submit a declaration letter. The destination account's nickname (logon ID) must match the domain name registrant's name. To obtain the template, click Download Declaration Letter Template. After you fill out the letter, submit it to Alibaba Cloud by submitting a ticket.
- Create a registrant profile under the account with a name matching the domain name registrant, and complete identity verification. How to complete identity verification for a domain name.

Step 2: Initiate the transfer

Enter information

Log on to the Other Domain Name Tools page with the destination account (Account B), then click Add Transfer.
Select Individual or Organization based on the registrant type.
In the Domain Names To Transfer text box, enter the domain names you want to transfer.

Click Confirm after entering the domain names. Otherwise, submission fails.
Enter information:
- Enter Registrant Information: Must match the domain name's current identity verification records exactly.
- Enter the Alibaba Cloud Logon ID Of The Domain Name Recipient: Hover over the profile picture in the upper-right corner to find the logon ID.
- Enter Contact Person Information. The contact person handles the transfer on behalf of the destination party. Not required for individuals.
Select the Reason For Offline Transfer, then click Next.

Upload documents

Important

Photos of original documents only. Scans, photocopies, and hard copies are not accepted.
Include background surroundings in photos to improve recognition.

Upload the Offline Domain Name Transfer Application Form: Download the auto-generated form, print and fill it out, then photograph and upload it.
- Individual type: The registrant must sign the form by hand, then take a photo and upload it.
- Organization type: The registrant organization must affix its official seal, and the delegated contact person must sign by hand. Then, take a photo and upload it.
Upload the registrant's documents:
- Individual type: Follow the interface prompts to upload a Photo Of The Registrant Holding The Original ID Card (portrait Side) and a Photo Of The Original ID Card (national Emblem Side).
- Organization type: Follow the page prompts to upload a Photo Of The Registrant Organization's Original Certificate and a Photo Of The Authorized Contact Person's Original ID Card.
Upload other documents:
- Individual type: Upload a Photo Of The Original Of Any One Of The Following Documents: Driver's License, Passport, Or Household Registration Book (hukou).
  
  Note
  The household registration book must contain the official seal of the local police station of your registered residence. If the applicant's own page in the book already has this seal, you only need to provide that page. Otherwise, you must also provide the head of household's page, which contains the seal.
- Organization type: Upload the Letter Of Authorization. The system automatically generates this letter based on the information you entered. Download and print it, then affix the registrant organization's official seal, take a photo, and upload it.
  
  Note
  If the company has been renamed or unregistered, follow the interface prompts to upload the required supporting documents.
After uploading the documents, click Submit and wait for the review result.

Step 3: Wait for review

Alibaba Cloud reviews documents within five business days. Check progress on the Other Domain Name Tools page.

If approved and no objection is received within five business days, the domain name is transferred to the specified account. A notification is sent to the destination account's email.
If rejected, check the failure reason on the Other Domain Name Tools page.

FAQ

What should I do if I can't see the domain name after the transfer?
- Confirm that you are logged on to the correct destination account. The domain name will no longer be visible in the source account.
- Verify that you performed a cross-account transfer, not an ownership change. An ownership change modifies registrant information but does not move the domain name to another account.
The domain name is in the account of a former employee or a proxy who is uncooperative with the transfer. What should I do?

You can try an offline transfer. After Alibaba Cloud approves the request, a notification is sent to the other party. If no objection is received within five business days, the transfer will be completed.
How long does a domain name transfer between Alibaba Cloud accounts take? Is there a fee? Does it affect the domain name's expiration date?
- Time: The online transfer is instant. The domain name appears in the destination account immediately.
- Fee: Free. No fee applies.
- Expiration date: Unaffected. Your domain name's expiration date remains the same.
Will transferring to another account affect my DNS resolution, ICP filing, or SSL certificate?
- DNS resolution: DNS resolution is not affected by the transfer.
  
  Free Edition DNS records migrate with the domain name. Paid Edition DNS records remain in the source account. Transfer a domain name between Alibaba Cloud accounts.
- ICP filing information: Not affected. The transfer changes only the management account. The domain's identity verification information (registrant name, certificate type, certificate number) remains unchanged and stays consistent with the ICP filing entity.
- SSL certificate: Not affected. The certificate is bound to the domain name, not the account. Use SSL certificate upload, synchronization, and sharing to share certificates between accounts with the same identity verification.
Does a cross-account transfer change the domain name's ownership?

A cross-account transfer changes only the managing account. Registrant information (ownership) is unchanged. To change the registrant, perform a registrant information change.
Can I still transfer a domain name if I have forgotten the source account's logon ID or password?
- Try to retrieve the logon ID of the account.
- If you cannot retrieve the password or log on, use the offline transfer method with supporting documents.
Can the transfer be revoked? What if I transfer the domain name to the wrong account?

No, the transfer is irreversible. Management rights transfer immediately upon submission. If transferred to the wrong account, contact that account's owner to arrange a return. Alibaba Cloud cannot intervene.
