Agentic DiskPool (Invited Test)

Updated at:

To meet the storage and burst performance requirements of the massive number of small-capacity disks used by AI agents, Agentic DiskPool pools and centrally manages capacity and performance. Disks in a pool share the pool's IOPS and throughput, and burst performance is enabled free of charge. Designed for agent scenarios, it delivers secure isolation and high-performance storage for small-capacity disks.

Benefits

  • Shared performance that gives small disks high performance: All disks in a pool freely compete for the IOPS and throughput of the DiskPool. In a DiskPool, even a 1 GiB disk can reach up to 350 MB/s peak throughput and up to 20,000 IOPS, breaking the performance ceiling imposed by the capacity of a single disk.

  • Free burst performance: For an Agentic Disk in a pool, BurstIO is always on, cannot be disabled, and incurs no extra charges. You do not pay extra for peak performance in burst scenarios.

  • Automatic scaling: When capacity usage reaches the trigger threshold, the pool scales out automatically without manual intervention. This avoids the risk of write interruptions caused by capacity exhaustion in traditional storage, and eliminates the operational overhead of frequent manual scaling.

  • Unified management for simplified operations: You need to manage only the Agentic DiskPool. Capacity planning and performance planning are handled at the pool level, which reduces the management complexity of large numbers of disks.

Scenarios

Large-scale AI agent startup and sub-second wake-up: At the moment an agent starts or wakes up, it generates a concentrated demand for high-throughput reads, such as loading images or checkpoints. By sharing performance across multiple disks, Agentic DiskPool enables small-capacity agent disks to achieve high throughput simultaneously, preventing the I/O bottlenecks caused by startup storms.

Specifications

  • Agentic DiskPool: A storage pool that serves as the management unit for capacity and performance. It is billed based on total capacity.

  • Agentic Disk: A disk within a pool that shares the performance of the DiskPool it belongs to. It is not billed separately.

Agentic Disk

An Agentic Disk is attached to an Agentic DiskPool and cannot be created independently. It belongs to the ESSD family as a locally redundant disk. It supports only pay-as-you-go billing with no additional billable items, and can only be purchased separately and attached to an instance as a data disk.

Specification

Description

Single-disk capacity range

1 to 65,536 GiB

Maximum IOPS

20,000

Maximum throughput

350 MB/s

Burst performance (free)

Always on.

Important

All Agentic Disks in a pool freely compete for the IOPS and throughput of the DiskPool. In a DiskPool, even a 1 GiB disk can reach up to 350 MB/s peak throughput and up to 20,000 IOPS, breaking the performance ceiling imposed by the capacity of a single disk. However, when a DiskPool has no idle performance, it cannot guarantee that every disk is allocated the performance it needs. If your workloads require guaranteed performance, we recommend that you use other disks in the ESSD family.

Limits

Agentic DiskPool is currently in Invitational Preview.

  • Feature limits: Agentic Disk does not support disk configuration changes, conversion from pay-as-you-go to subscription, disk cloning, or async replication.

If you need to change a disk's configuration, you can first create a snapshot and then use the snapshot to create a disk of the required type.
  • Instance type limits: The 5th-generation instance families are not supported. All other instance types that support disk attachment are the same as those supported by ESSDs. See Instance family overview

Billing

  • Agentic DiskPool: Billed on a pay-as-you-go basis according to the total capacity of the Agentic DiskPool and the usage duration. The unit price is the same as that of ESSD PL1.

  • Agentic Disk: Not billed separately. The capacity and performance costs of the disks in a pool are already included in the capacity fee of the Agentic DiskPool, so no extra payment is required.
