ECS Bare Metal Instance is a compute server built on next-generation virtualization technology developed by Alibaba Cloud. This topic describes how to create an ECS Bare Metal Instance.

Background

Creating an ECS Bare Metal Instance is similar to creating a standard ECS instance. This topic describes only the basic configuration parameters specific to ECS Bare Metal Instances. For information about other general configurations, see Create an instance by using the wizard.

Procedure

  1. Go to the ECS instance buy page.

  2. Configure parameters such as the billing method, instance type, and image.

    Parameter

    Description

    Billing Method

The billing method determines how you are charged for an instance and its lifecycle. The following options are available:

    Region

A region is the geographical area where a data center is located. Select a region close to your users to reduce network latency. You cannot change the region after you create the instance. For more information, see Regions and zones.

    Network and Zone

    • We recommend that you use a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). VPCs are logically isolated from each other for enhanced security. They also support features such as Elastic IP address (EIP), elastic network interface (ENI), and IPv6.

    • A zone is a physical area within a region that has independent power and network infrastructure. Instances in the same zone have lower network latency, which results in faster access for your users.

    Instance

Click ECS Bare Metal Instance or GPU/FPGA/ASIC, and then select an ECS Bare Metal Instance type. For more information, see instance families.

    Note

Available instance types vary by region. For information about which instance types are available for purchase in different regions, see Instance types available by region.

    Images

An image provides the information required to run an instance. Alibaba Cloud offers a variety of image sources. The purchase page lists the supported images.

  3. Configure storage, bandwidth, security group, and management settings.

For a detailed description of each parameter, see Parameter description.

  4. Before creating the instance, review the configuration summary in the pane on the right and specify options such as the subscription duration.

  5. Read and select ECS Terms of Service and Refund Policies and Procedure, and then click Confirm Order.

    Note

Select the Refund Policies and Procedure only when you purchase a subscription instance.

It typically takes 3 to 5 minutes to create the instance. You can go to the instance list page in the ECS console to view the instance status. When the status changes to Running, the instance is ready for use.
