Issue
You cannot log on to a Windows-based Simple Application Server instance using Remote Desktop Connection. When you test network connectivity, you find that you cannot ping the instance's public IP address.
Cause
This issue occurs because the network card on the Windows server is disabled.
Resolution
The following procedure uses Windows Server 2012 R2 as an example. The steps may vary for other operating system versions. For more information, see the official documentation for your operating system.
Connect to the Windows server using VNC in the management console. For more information, see Connect to an instance by using VNC in the management console.
In the lower-right corner of the desktop, right-click the
network icon, and then click Open Network and Sharing Center.In the left navigation pane, click Change adapter settings.
Right-click the disabled network and click Enable.
After the network card is enabled, right-click it and click Properties.
In the Local Area Connection Properties window, under This connection uses the following items:, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
On the General tab, select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically, and then click OK.
In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click Close.
Connect to the Windows server using Remote Desktop Connection to verify that you can connect.
