Lab overview

Updated at:

EBS Lab is a platform where you can try and learn about the Alibaba Cloud Elastic Block Storage (EBS) service. You can use the lab to quickly build a database or deploy a developer environment with a single click. You can see how new EBS features perform in various business scenarios. These features include the 16 KB atomic write capability of enterprise SSDs (ESSDs) and agentless data backup with snapshots. You can also follow the manual deployment instructions in the lab guides to build databases and deploy developer environments in your production environment.

Important

The one-click deployment feature in the lab is typically used to quickly validate features and test new attributes. However, a production environment requires a more careful and detailed deployment procedure. Do not apply this feature directly to your production environment to prevent unexpected issues. For production environments, use the manual deployment method. This method lets you customize configurations and optimizations as required to ensure system security and stability.

Feature advantages

  • Rich lab scenarios

EBS Lab uses Resource Orchestration Service (ROS) for automatic orchestration and deployment. It combines features such as the 16KB atomic write of ESSDs, disk snapshot backup, and the multi-attach feature of Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) shared disks. This provides various lab scenarios, such as deploying high-performance MySQL services on EBS, agentless ECS data backup and efficient environment setup, and shared cluster file systems on NVMe disks. You can also download the ROS templates for each lab scenario to orchestrate and manage tasks yourself.

  • One-click orchestration and deployment

You can use the lab to create lab tasks, purchase the required resources, and automatically build the lab environment with a single click. When you no longer need a lab task, you can release all its resources with a single click to simplify resource management.

  • Automated configuration recommendations

The lab recommends the best combination of instances, disks, images, and networks for each lab scenario. This eliminates manual configuration and lets you achieve the same level of performance with lower-cost resources.

  • Improved performance and O&M efficiency

    • The 16 KB atomic write capability of ESSDs is used to provide higher-performance MySQL database services.

    • Agentless data backup with snapshots is used to quickly and efficiently build ECS instances with the same operating system, applications, and data. This improves the operations and maintenance (O&M) efficiency of your cloud services.

    • The multi-attach feature of NVMe shared disks is used to allow concurrent read and write access to the same file system and disk from multiple instances.

Billing

The lab itself is free to use. You only pay for the resources that you use when you create a lab task, such as ECS instances, ESSDs, public bandwidth, and snapshots.

Try lab scenarios

EBS Lab offers a variety of lab scenarios, such as deploying high-performance MySQL services on EBS, agentless ECS data backup and efficient environment setup, and shared cluster file systems on NVMe disks.

  • Deploy high-performance MySQL services on EBS: This lab scenario uses the automatic orchestration of ROS. It combines the 16 KB atomic write capability of ESSDs with MySQL business scenarios to provide a hands-on example of a self-managed MySQL database.

  • Perform agentless backup and efficiently clone a MySQL environment: This lab scenario uses agentless data backup with snapshots. It automatically creates a snapshot of the system disk in the production environment, uses the snapshot to create a custom image, and then uses the custom image to create a new instance. This new instance clones the MySQL instance from the production environment for use as a staging environment. The cloned instance has the same operating system, applications, and data.

  • Deploy a cluster file system on an NVMe shared disk: This lab scenario uses the multi-attach feature of EBS NVMe shared disks to deploy a cluster file system. This allows concurrent read and write access to the same file system and disk from multiple instances.
