Manage ECS quotas

A quota is the maximum number of cloud resources or operations allowed for an Alibaba Cloud account. In Quota Center, you can view your ECS quotas and usage, request quota increases based on your business needs, and create quota alerts. This topic explains how to manage your ECS-related quotas.

Quota allocation

The system dynamically adjusts your quotas based on your actual usage. Maintaining a large number of instances over time does not, by itself, require a quota increase. Only request an increase if you anticipate a significant surge in usage.

ECS-related quotas

When you manage ECS-related quotas in Quota Center, focus on quotas for the following resource types:

  • General quotas: These quotas limit the quantity of cloud resources, such as security groups, in your account.

    • ECS Quotas by Instance Type: The maximum number of vCPUs, GPU cards, or vGPU instances of a specific ECS instance family that an Alibaba Cloud account can have in a specific region for a specific billing method.

    • Elastic Compute Service: Quotas for resources such as images and security groups.

    • Block Storage: Quotas for different types of cloud disks for an Alibaba Cloud account in a specific region and zone.

  • API rate limit: An API rate limit defines the maximum frequency of OpenAPI calls. For example, the rate limit for the RunInstances API operation is 100/60(s).

    • ECS: The API rate limit for resources such as images, security groups, and Elastic Block Storage (EBS) for API version 2014-05-26.

      Important

You cannot currently request increases for ECS API rate limits.

    • Block Storage: The API rate limit for advanced EBS features for API version 2021-07-30.

Manage general ECS quotas

General quotas limit the quantity of cloud resources, such as security groups, in your account.

View and increase ECS instance family quotas

An ECS instance family quota is the maximum number of vCPUs, GPU cards, or vGPU instances of a specific ECS instance family that an Alibaba Cloud account can have in a specific region for a specific billing method.

  1. Go to the General Quotas of Ecs Quotas by Instance Type page.

  2. Select the desired region.

  3. In the quota list, view a quota or request an increase.

    • To view a quota: The value in the Quotas column is the quota limit, and the value in the Used column is the current usage.

      Note

You can find a quota by its corresponding instance family. For the mapping between quota items and instance families, see vCPU quota items and GPU and vGPU quota items.

    • To request a quota increase:

      1. In the Operation column, click Request.

        Important

If Actions is displayed in the The number of quotas cannot be changed. column, you cannot request an increase for that quota.

      2. In the dialog box, set New Quota and Reason, and keep the default value for Notify Adjustment Results.

        Note
        • To increase the chance of approval, specify a reasonable quota value and provide a detailed reason for your request.

        • You will receive an SMS and email notification with the result.

      3. Click Confirm.

      4. In the left-side navigation pane, click Application Records to view the approval status of your quota increase request.

A status of Approved means the quota increase was successful.
