FAQ: Adding domain names

Common questions about adding accelerated domain names to DCDN, including domain conflicts, ICP filing delays, wildcard domains, and certificate issues.

Domain name already in use

  • The domain name is in use by another cloud service: If the domain is already added to another service (such as ApsaraVideo Live), ensure no active traffic remains, delete it from that service's console, then add it to DCDN. For other scenarios, submit a ticket.

  • The domain name is in use by another Alibaba Cloud account: Log in to the account that owns the domain, ensure no active traffic remains, delete the domain from its console, then add it to your current account. For other scenarios, submit a ticket.

ICP filing not detected

ICP filing information takes time to synchronize from the MIIT to DCDN. Wait at least 8 hours after your ICP filing is approved before adding the domain name.

Can I add a root domain and subdomain together?

No. A root domain like aliyundoc.com and a subdomain like example.aliyundoc.com are separate domain names. You must add each one individually in the DCDN console.

How do I accelerate multiple domain levels?

A root domain (aliyundoc.com), second-level domain (example.aliyundoc.com), and third-level domain (www.example.aliyundoc.com) are distinct domain names. Add each one to DCDN separately. If they share settings, use copy configurations or the BatchAddDcdnDomain API to add them in batches.

Does DCDN support wildcard domains?

Yes. You can add a wildcard domain name as an accelerated domain in DCDN.

Add the wildcard domain *.aliyundoc.com as an accelerated domain. When you map *.aliyundoc.com to the CNAME generated by DCDN, all subdomains such as example.aliyundoc.com and demo.aliyundoc.com are accelerated through the CNAME of *.aliyundoc.com. Does DCDN support wildcard domain acceleration?

How do I disable or delete an accelerated domain?

Disable the domain's acceleration in the DCDN console first, then delete it.

Before you disable or delete an accelerated domain, migrate all traffic away from it to prevent service disruptions. Use one of the following methods:

  • Add a replacement accelerated domain and gradually shift traffic to it until the old domain has zero traffic.

  • Change the domain's DNS resolution from its CNAME record back to your origin address.

Subdomain access issues with wildcard certificates

  • Symptom: Users receive a browser error when accessing a fourth-level (or deeper) subdomain after configuring a wildcard certificate.

  • Cause: A wildcard certificate for *.aliyundoc.com only covers immediate subdomains (such as example.aliyundoc.com), not deeper levels like image.developer.aliyundoc.com. This is a standard CA and browser limitation.

  • Solution: Use a wildcard certificate that matches the target level. For example, *.developer.aliyundoc.com covers image.developer.aliyundoc.com and demo.developer.aliyundoc.com.

Access for users outside the acceleration region

When the acceleration region is set to Chinese mainland, requests from outside this region are routed to POPs within the Chinese mainland. Cross-border network conditions may cause high latency, packet loss, or access failures for these users.
