Accelerating and securing static resources
Accelerating and securing static resources
This solution uses Edge Security Accelerator (ESA) to distribute static resources from Object Storage Service (OSS). By responding from nearby edge nodes, ESA reduces origin server load and improves user access speed. Its native security capabilities also enhance access security and overall website performance.
Intended customers
Enterprises with a global presence
Enterprises that face high-concurrency access
Teams that need to optimize costs and resource management
Background
The impact of website performance
Users far from a website's origin server often experience slow access speeds. For example, on websites without performance acceleration, 64.6% of sites take longer than 1 second to load, with an average full load time of 3.3 seconds.

Every one-second increase in website load time can increase user churn by 10%. For example, the Taobao mobile app achieves an instant-open rate of over 80% for most of its pages. Website load time affects not only the user experience but also business outcomes. Studies show that users are highly sensitive to website performance:
● Bounce rate: According to research by Google, if a website's page load time increases from 1 second to 3 seconds, the bounce rate increases by 32%. If the load time increases from 1 second to 5 seconds, the bounce rate increases by 90%.
● Conversion rate: Research from Akamai shows that 47% of users expect a website to load in under 2 seconds, and 40% will abandon a site that takes longer than 3 seconds to load. A 1-second delay can lead to a 7% drop in the conversion rate.
● Sales: Research by Amazon indicates that for every 100-millisecond increase in load time, sales decrease by 1%.
This data shows that website performance directly impacts user experience and key business metrics like bounce rate, conversion rate, and sales. Therefore, improving website performance is crucial.
Limitations of traditional CDN acceleration
Rigid caching policies
Traditional Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) can only set a simple caching policy based on file extensions (e.g., .jpg, .css), making it difficult to dynamically adjust caching rules based on complex conditions like URL paths or request headers.
Manual back-to-source path configuration
In a traditional CDN architecture, back-to-source policies require manual configuration and maintenance. If a pre-set back-to-source path experiences congestion, packet loss, or failure, the system cannot automatically switch to a more optimal path, resulting in slower access speeds.
Lack of native security modules
CDNs lack native security modules, requiring separate configuration for features like custom WAF rules, Bot management, DDoS protection, and API protection.
Solution advantages
Accelerate static resources with ESA
Traditional CDN acceleration has limitations such as fixed transmission paths, a lack of intelligent routing, simplistic caching policies, and weak security. Edge Security Accelerator (ESA) addresses these issues by integrating intelligent scheduling, security, and edge computing into a unified solution.

Enhanced caching policies
ESA provides extensive caching policy options, supporting multi-dimensional configurations based on URL paths, request headers, and custom cache keys to meet the needs of diverse scenarios.

Intelligently optimized transmission paths
ESA uses intelligent routing to dynamically optimize global network paths, eliminating manual configuration. This reduces transmission latency and improves data transfer efficiency.

ESA native security modules
ESA natively supports edge WAF, edge Bot management, DDoS protection, and origin server protection. It protects your data center by inspecting and filtering traffic at the edge nodes.

Improved loading speed for large files
For a 3 MB image file, the load time on a typical website is over 500 ms. After acceleration with ESA, the average load time is reduced to 260 ms, an improvement of nearly 50%.

Store your website's static resources (such as images, CSS files, and audio/video files) in Object Storage Service (OSS). Use ESA to cache the files from the OSS origin server at global edge nodes. When users request or download resources, they retrieve content from the nearest ESA node, accelerating resource access.
