Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) analyzes Layer 4 proxy log data to provide multi-dimensional analysis and visualizations for your site. This analysis includes time-based trend curves for metrics such as traffic, connections, and connection duration, along with data on country/region distribution and Top N rankings.

Benefits

The Layer 4 proxy analysis feature uses data from the Layer 4 proxy logs generated by the ESA Layer 4 proxy service. These logs contain data such as client IP addresses, request times, request types, and response statuses. By analyzing these logs, the feature provides multi-dimensional data analysis on traffic, connections, and connection duration. This helps you understand the performance and security of your Layer 4 protocol applications and make more effective optimization decisions.

Layer 4 proxy analysis helps you analyze data from the following dimensions:

  • Time-based trend curves: View trend graphs that show how data metrics change over time across different dimensions. This helps you visualize trends in key metrics such as traffic and connections.

  • Real-time monitoring and alerting: Monitor key metrics such as traffic and connections in real time. This helps you promptly identify and resolve potential security threats and performance issues.

  • Application performance optimization: Use in-depth analysis of data such as traffic and connections to optimize application performance and improve user experience.

  • Geographic distribution analysis: View the distribution of traffic data across different countries or regions. This helps you accurately identify target markets and provides a basis for optimizing regional services and creating market strategies.

View Layer 4 proxy analysis reports

  1. In the ESA console, select Websites. In the Website column, click the target site.

  2. In the left navigation pane, choose TCP/UDP > Analytics.

  3. On the Layer 4 Proxy Analysis page, you can view traffic statistics and analysis. You can also click the image icon to print the report or click the image icon to download the data as a CSV file. You can use filters to refine the data. For more information, see How to use filters.

Data metrics

Overview

The Overview section displays all traffic transmitted to clients through ESA nodes. This section provides intuitive traffic visualization to help you analyze historical traffic trends.

image

  • Inbound Traffic: The total volume of traffic from client requests that ESA nodes receive.

  • Outbound Traffic: The total volume of traffic that ESA nodes transmit to clients.

  • Maximum Concurrent Connections: The maximum number of concurrent transport-layer connections established between clients and ESA within the selected time period.

    Note

The percentage change for each data metric is calculated on a period-over-period basis. This value compares the data from the current time range with data from the previous equivalent time range.

Country/region panel

This is an interactive map that shows the traffic by country or region.

Top data by dimension

The Layer 4 proxy analysis feature provides a comprehensive overview of Layer 4 traffic and user behavior insights across multiple dimensions, such as host, client IP, and client Internet Service Provider (ISP). You can select a time range to view detailed data and visualizations for these dimensions.
