Back up and restore data
You can use restore points and images to back up and restore your cloud computer's data. This topic compares these two methods and explains how to use them.
The procedures in this topic use the Windows client (V7.11) as an example. If your experience differs, you may be using another client type or an older version. Upgrade your client to the latest version.
Background
The main differences between using restore points and images for data backup are as follows:
A restore point is a backup of disk data. For the Personal Edition, the system automatically creates a daily restore point that includes all disk data (system and data disks). You can use a restore point to recover from a system failure.
An image contains the operating system, application data, pre-installed software, and disk data. While primarily used to quickly replicate cloud computers, images can also serve as backups.
Back up data using a custom image
While restore points are created automatically by the system, you can manually create a custom image to back up your cloud computer. An image preserves the entire state of your cloud computer, including its operating system, applications, and data.
