You can back up and restore data on your cloud computer by using restore points or images. This topic describes the differences between restore points and images, and how to use them.

Important

The following examples use macOS client version 8.5.3. If your experience differs from what is described here, you may be using a different client type or an outdated version. We recommend upgrading to the latest version.

Background information

Both restore points and images can be used to back up and restore data on your cloud computer. The following list describes the differences:

A restore point is a data backup that captures disk data at a specific point in time. Personal Edition automatically backs up data on all disks of the cloud computer, including system disks and data disks, on a daily basis. These backups are called restore points. If a system failure occurs, you can use a restore point to restore your data.
An image contains not only the disk data, but also the operating system, application initialization data, and preinstalled software. Images are primarily used to quickly replicate a cloud computer, but can also be used to back up and restore data.

Back up data with a custom image

You can back up cloud computer data by using restore points or images. Restore points are automatically generated by the system and cannot be created manually. Images, on the other hand, can be created on demand and preserve all cloud computer data, including the operating system, application initialization data, and preinstalled software.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Personal Cloud Computer.
On the cloud computer card, click Manage.
On the Image tab, click Create Image.
On the Create Image page, enter an image name and description, select the disks to include, specify whether to clean up personal data, and then click Create Now.

Note
You can create up to 10 custom images.

If you plan to share this custom image with others, we recommend that you turn on Clean Up Personal Data to protect your personal information.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
Shut down the cloud computer, and then click Manage on the cloud computer card.
On the Manage page, click Create Image on the Image tab.
On the Create Image page, enter an image name and description, select the disks to include, specify whether to clean up personal data, and then click Create Now.

Note
You can create up to 10 custom images.

Important
If you plan to share this custom image with others, we recommend that you turn on Clean Up Personal Data to protect your personal information.

Alipay/WeChat mini program

In Alipay or WeChat, search for and open the EDS Personal mini program.
On the Cloud Resources tab, shut down the cloud computer, and then click Manage on the cloud computer card.
On the Manage page, click Create Image on the Image tab.
On the Create Image page, enter an image name and description, select the disks to include, specify whether to clean up personal data, and then click Create Now.

Note
You can create up to 10 custom images.

Important
If you plan to share this custom image with others, we recommend that you turn on Clean Up Personal Data to protect your personal information.

Restore data from restore points

You can use restore points to restore disk data of your Personal Edition cloud computer.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the client and sign in to the Personal Edition.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Personal Cloud Computer.
On the cloud computer card, click Manage.
On the Restore Points tab, find the target restore point and click Restore.
Note
- To restore disk data to the state at the time when the restore point was created, you must first shut down the cloud computer.
- Auto-generated restore points are displayed on this tab. Only the latest 7 restore points are retained for both the system disk and data disk. If the cloud computer was recently activated, restore points may not yet be available.
In the confirmation dialog box, select the disk to restore (system disk or data disk), and then click Confirm Restore.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
Shut down the cloud computer, and then click Manage on the cloud computer card.
On the Restore Points tab, find the target restore point and click Restore.

Restore the cloud computer to its default state by using a system image

System images are default cloud computer images provided by Personal Edition and include multiple operating systems. You can use a system image to restore the cloud computer to its default state or switch to a different operating system.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Personal Cloud Computer.
On the cloud computer card, click Manage.
On the Image panel, click Restore to Default Image, and then perform one of the following operations:
- To restore the cloud computer to its default state, select Restore Default Image and click OK.
- To switch to a different operating system, select Reset to Another System Image, select the operating system from the drop-down list, and then click OK.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
On the cloud computer card, click Manage.
On the Manage page, click Restore or Switch System Image on the Image tab, and then perform one of the following operations:
- To restore the cloud computer to its default state, select Restore Default Image and click OK.
- To switch to a different operating system, select Switch Operating System, select the operating system from the list, and then click OK.

Alipay/WeChat mini program

In Alipay or WeChat, search for and open the EDS Personal mini program.
On the Cloud Resources tab, click Manage on the cloud computer card.
On the Manage page, click Restore or Switch System Image on the Image tab, and then perform one of the following operations:
- To restore the cloud computer to its default state, select Restore Default Image and click OK.
- To switch to a different operating system, select Switch Operating System, select the operating system from the list, and then click OK.

Restore cloud computer data by using a custom or third-party image

You can restore cloud computer data by using a custom image that you created or a third-party image that you imported.

Warning

Changing the image initializes the system disk of the cloud computer by using the system disk of the selected image, and removes the software and personal data on the original system disk. If the operating system of the new image differs from that of the original image, the data on the data disk is also cleared, and the related snapshots become unavailable and are automatically removed. Back up important data before you change the image.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Personal Cloud Computer.
On the cloud computer card, click Manage.
On the Image panel, click Change Image.
On the Change Image page, perform one of the following operations:
- To change to an existing image, click Select Image, select a custom image that you created or an imported shared image, and then click OK.
- To change to a new shared image, click Select Image, click Import Image with Sharing Code at the bottom of the dialog box, enter the sharing code, and then click OK. After the image is imported, follow the previous step to change the image.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
On the cloud computer card, click Manage.
On the Manage page, click Change Image on the Image tab.
On the Change Image page, perform one of the following operations:
- To change to an existing image, click Select Image, select a custom image that you created or an imported shared image, and then click Confirm Shutdown and Change.
- To change to a new shared image, click Import with Sharing Code, enter the sharing code, and then click OK. After the image is imported, follow the previous step to change the image.

Alipay/WeChat mini program

In Alipay or WeChat, search for and open the Wuying cloud computer mini program.
On the Cloud Resources tab, click Manage on the cloud computer card.
On the Manage page, click Change Image on the Image tab.
On the Change Image page, perform one of the following operations:
- To change to an existing image, click Select Image, select a custom image that you created or an imported shared image, and then click Confirm Shutdown and Change.
- To change to a new shared image, click Import with Sharing Code, enter the sharing code, and then click OK. After the image is imported, follow the previous step to change the image.

Manage images

Share a custom image

You can generate a sharing code for a custom image. Others can import the image by using the sharing code and then change their cloud computer image to quickly replicate a cloud computer with identical configuration and data.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
In the lower-left corner of the cloud computer list page, click Image Management.
On the My Images tab, find the image that you want to share, and then turn on the Sharing Code toggle.
Select the Sharing Code Activation Method and specify whether to enable Encrypted Sharing, and then click OK.
After the sharing code is generated, click the icon next to it to copy the code.

Note
Image sharing codes are reusable. If you want to use the current image to replace a previously shared image, select Bind to Existing Sharing Code and choose a sharing code.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
On the Me tab, tap Image Management.
On the My Images tab, find the image that you want to share, and then turn on the Sharing Code toggle.
Select the Sharing Code Activation Method and specify whether to enable Encrypted Sharing, and then tap OK.
After the sharing code is generated, tap to copy it.

Note
Image sharing codes are reusable. If you want to use the current image to replace a previously shared image, select Bind to Existing Sharing Code and choose a sharing code.

Alipay/WeChat mini program

In Alipay or WeChat, search for and open the Wuying cloud computer mini program.
On the Me tab, tap Image Management.
On the My Images tab, find the image that you want to share, and then turn on the Sharing Code toggle.
Select the Sharing Code Activation Method and specify whether to enable Encrypted Sharing, and then tap OK.
After the sharing code is generated, tap to copy it.

Image sharing codes are reusable. If you want to use the current image to replace a previously shared image, select Bind to Existing Sharing Code and choose a sharing code.

Import an image

By importing an image shared by others and changing your cloud computer image, you can quickly replicate a cloud computer with identical configuration and data, which reduces the effort of setting up a new system. For example, if you want to play a resource-intensive game on your cloud computer without downloading and installing it from scratch, you can directly import a shared image that already has the game installed. You can use an image sharing code provided directly by someone, or browse and obtain one from the image community. For details, see Image community.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
In the lower-left corner of the cloud computer list page, click Image Management.
In the upper-right corner, click Import via Sharing Code.
In the dialog box, enter the image sharing code, and then click OK.

The imported image appears on the Saved Images tab.

Note
If the sharer updates the source image after you imported it, the Image Source Updated label appears next to the image name. To use the updated shared image, click Sync Now.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
On the Me tab, tap Image Management.
On the Shared Images tab, tap More > Import Image.
Enter the sharing code or select an image, and then tap Import Now.

The imported image appears on the Shared Images tab.

Note
If the sharer updates the source image after you imported it, the Image Source Updated label appears next to the image name. To use the updated shared image, tap Sync Now.

Alipay/WeChat mini program

In Alipay or WeChat, search for and open the Wuying cloud computer mini program.
On the Me tab, tap Image Management.
On the Shared Images tab, tap More > Import Image.
Enter the sharing code or select an image, and then tap Import Now.

The imported image appears on the Shared Images tab.

Note
If the sharer updates the source image after you imported it, the Image Source Updated label appears next to the image name. To use the updated shared image, tap Sync Now.

Delete an image

You can delete custom images or shared images that you no longer need. System images cannot be deleted.

Windows/macOS/Web client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
In the lower-left corner of the cloud computer list page, click Image Management.
On the My Images tab or the Saved Images tab, find the image that you want to delete, and then click the icon.
In the confirmation dialog box, click Confirm Deletion.

Android/iOS client

Open the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and sign in to Personal Edition.
On the Me tab, tap Image Management.
On the My Images tab or the Shared Images tab, find the image that you want to delete, and then tap the icon.
In the confirmation dialog box, tap OK.

Alipay/WeChat mini program

In Alipay or WeChat, search for and open the Wuying cloud computer mini program.
On the Me tab, tap Image Management.
On the My Images tab or the Shared Images tab, find the image that you want to delete, and then tap the icon.
In the confirmation dialog box, tap OK.
