Transfer files
Elastic Desktop Service Personal Edition provides three built-in transfer methods — local disk mapping, clipboard, and file transfer module — to transfer files between your local device and cloud computer without additional tools. Choose a method based on the client you are using and the size of the files to transfer.
Supported transfer methods
Transfer method | Supported clients | Transfer direction | Supported cloud computer OS | Best for |
File transfer module (floating ball) | All clients | Bidirectional | Windows Server, Linux Ubuntu, Kylin | File uploads and downloads |
Clipboard | Small files and text | |||
Local disk mapping | Windows client, Android client | Bidirectional file access, large files |
Considerations
Client compatibility — Different transfer methods support different clients. See the comparison table for details.
Operating system support — All transfer methods support the following cloud computer operating systems: Windows Server, Linux Ubuntu, and Kylin.
Network connection — All transfer methods require a stable network connection. Network interruptions may cause transfer failures.
File integrity — When you transfer large files, verify the file size after the transfer is complete to ensure data integrity.
Transfer files via file transfer module (floating ball)
The file transfer module provides upload and download features for transferring files between your local device and the cloud computer.
Supported clients: All clients.
Linux users can access the cloud computer through the web client and use the file transfer module.
Procedure
Use a client to connect to the cloud computer.
Find the floating ball on the cloud computer interface. The floating ball is a circular icon that appears after you connect to the cloud computer. It may be hidden or attached to the edge of the screen.
Click the floating ball to expand the feature menu, and then select File Transfer.
Select Upload File or Download File as needed:
Upload File: Transfer files from your local device to the cloud computer. In the dialog box that appears, select local files and confirm the upload. The uploaded files are saved to the Downloads folder on the cloud computer.
Download File: Transfer files from the cloud computer to your local device. In the dialog box that appears, select files on the cloud computer and confirm the download. The downloaded files are saved to the default download location on your local device.
Wait for the transfer progress bar to complete. Confirm the transfer result in the prompt that appears.
After the transfer is complete, go to the destination to verify that the file exists and that the file size matches the original.
Transfer files via clipboard
You can use the clipboard to copy and paste files or text between your local device and the cloud computer.
Supported clients: All clients.
For files larger than 100 MB, use local disk mapping or transfer files through Object Storage Service (OSS). The clipboard is best suited for small files and text. If you use a macOS or iOS client, local disk mapping is not available — use the clipboard or the file transfer module instead.
Procedure
Cut or copy text, files, or folders on your local device or cloud computer.
Paste them at the destination.
You can use keyboard shortcuts or context menu commands to cut, copy, and paste. If the paste operation produces no result, verify that clipboard sync is enabled in the client settings.
Transfer files via local disk mapping
Local disk mapping maps the disks of your local device as network drives in the cloud computer. You can directly access, copy, and modify files on your local disks from within the cloud computer.
After local disk mapping is enabled, data on your local disks is synchronized bidirectionally with the cloud computer. Use the cloud computer properly to prevent data leaks and security risks.
Supported clients: Windows and Android clients.
macOS and iOS clients do not support local disk mapping. If you use a macOS or iOS client, use the clipboard or the file transfer module to transfer files.
Transfer via Windows client
Open the Wuying client and log on to Personal Edition.
Click your username in the lower-left corner of the page, and then click Security Center.
Select the Local Disk Management tab.
Turn on the switch next to Local Disk Mapping.
Connect to the cloud computer and open This PC.
In the left-side menu, select Internal Storage Device to copy, paste, cut, and edit files the same way as you do with local files.
After you enable local disk mapping and open This PC, your local drives appear under Internal Storage Device as network drives.
Transfer via Android client
The Android client enables local disk mapping by default. You can manage it by performing the following steps.
Open the Wuying client, log on to Personal Edition, and connect to the cloud computer.
After you connect to the cloud computer, tap the floating ball and select the Peripherals tab. The floating ball is a circular icon that appears after you connect to the cloud computer. It may be hidden or attached to the edge of the screen.
Under Storage Devices, you can enable or disable Auto Connect and view the status of internal storage devices.
Open This PC and select Internal Storage Device in the left-side menu to copy, paste, cut, and edit files the same way as you do with local files.
If you do not want to maintain bidirectional synchronization between the cloud computer and your phone, disable auto connect under Storage Devices and tap Safely Eject.
FAQ
Q: What should I do if the network disconnects during a transfer?
A: A network interruption causes the transfer to fail. Restore the network connection and try the transfer again.
Q: How do I confirm that a file transfer was successful?
A: After the transfer is complete, go to the destination (local device or cloud computer) and check whether the file exists and compare the file sizes. For transfers through the file transfer module, a prompt appears when the transfer is complete.
Q: What is the recommended file size limit for clipboard transfers?
A: The clipboard is suitable for transferring small files and text. For files larger than 100 MB, use local disk mapping or transfer files through Object Storage Service (OSS).
Q: Does local disk mapping work on macOS or iOS?
A: No. macOS and iOS clients do not support local disk mapping. Use the clipboard or the file transfer module instead.
Q: Where are uploaded files saved when using the file transfer module?
A: Files uploaded through the file transfer module are saved to the Downloads folder on the cloud computer. Files downloaded through the file transfer module are saved to the default download location on your local device.
