Learn how enterprises use Energy Expert for energy management, carbon accounting, and green certification.

1. Enterprise energy management

The energy management module of Alibaba Cloud Energy Expert collects, analyzes, and predicts enterprise energy consumption data, provides alerts, and offers recommendations to optimize electricity use.

Energy Expert uses MQTT and Modbus protocols to collect energy data from sources such as electricity meters, water meters, gas meters, inverters, and steam meters. It inventories, queries, and analyzes this data, then applies Alibaba Cloud algorithms to predict loads, detect abnormal usage, and recommend improvements — helping managers optimize energy use, save energy, and reduce emissions.

Case study: Hangzhou Huaju Composite Materials Co., Ltd., a small to medium-sized manufacturer

Energy management helped the Huaju factory save 170,000 kWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to a reduction of over 120 tons of carbon emissions. The factory also manages 2 MW of renewable energy, generating 2.21 million kWh of green electricity per year. This reduces carbon emissions by over 1,500 tons. Carbon footprint calculations show that these efforts reduced emissions per square meter of product by 16%. The use of these products in vehicles, combined with reductions from the factory's own manufacturing processes, contributes to an annual carbon emission reduction of nearly 30,000 tons.

Case study: Wenergy Group's ecological science and technology park

Energy Expert built the smart energy and carbon management platform for the Changfeng Yuqiao Ecological Science and Technology Park, operated by Wenergy Group. The platform centrally manages energy consumption and carbon emissions across energy stations, photovoltaic stations, energy storage stations, and energy-use terminals within the park's microgrid. AI algorithms optimize coordination between source, grid, load, and storage elements, improving the efficiency of the integrated energy system and reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.

This project was nominated for the Top Ten Low-Carbon Scenarios in Anhui Province award in 2022.

2. Enterprise carbon management and green certification

After reporting energy consumption data, an enterprise can use the carbon accounting feature in Energy Expert. The organizational carbon inventory feature defines the boundaries for the enterprise's carbon emission sources. The enterprise then completes its annual carbon inventory by manually uploading Scope 3 activity data or syncing it through an API, providing the data required for organizational carbon inventory certification.

Manufacturing companies can also use the product carbon footprint tool in Energy Expert to calculate a product's carbon emissions over its entire lifecycle. Companies perform online modeling and enter activity data to generate a product carbon footprint analysis report with proactive carbon reduction recommendations. For low-carbon products, the tool can generate a shareable H5 page for end-users and a Product Category Rules (PCR) report to support product carbon footprint certification.

Case study: Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC)

Energy Expert supported the low-carbon development of the Hangzhou Asian Games Village by optimizing energy consumption to promote energy savings and emission reductions. The Asian Games Village app shared China's energy-saving and carbon-reduction technologies with athletes, media personnel, and staff, encouraging a green lifestyle during the games.

Energy Expert also calculated the product carbon footprint for licensed Asian Games merchandise, such as mascot dolls and frisbees. It identified proactive carbon reduction measures — including using recycled materials, recycled packaging, and green electricity — and guided manufacturers in implementing these strategies.

This project received an official letter of appreciation from HAGOC.
