The following table defines key terms used in Alibaba Cloud Edge Node Service (ENS).

TermDefinition
ENSAn edge service that delivers elastic infrastructure capabilities — computing, networking, storage, and security — at edge locations, based on geographic regions and Internet service providers (ISPs). ENS builds a two-layer architecture of center and edge, running network forwarding, storage, and computing workloads closer to end users to reduce loads in the cloud. Compared with central-based cloud services, ENS delivers lower network latency and a smaller volume of data transmitted, with advantages in performance, costs, and features.
instanceA virtual machine that contains the basic components of a server — CPU, memory, an operating system, network configurations, and disks — running at an ENS edge location. Manage your instances from the Alibaba Cloud ENS console.
imageA template used to create ENS instances. An image bundles an operating system with pre-installed software. Use an image to launch a new instance or replace the system disk of an existing instance.
