You can use an Express Connect Router (ECR) to connect your data centers across different regions and allow them to communicate.

Scenario

You can connect multiple data centers through an Express Connect Router (ECR) by associating the virtual border router (VBR) of each data center with the ECR. After the VBRs are associated, you must enable the feature that allows access between data centers.

Prerequisites

Procedure

After you enable the switch to allow access between data centers, the VBR can receive routes from other VBRs that are associated with the same ECR. If you disable the switch, the VBR can no longer receive these routes.

Step 1: Associate VBRs with the ECR

Repeat this step to associate each VBR with the ECR.

  1. Log on to the Express Connect Console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Express Connect Router (ECR). On the Express Connect Router (ECR) page, click the target ECR instance.

  3. On the VBR tab, click Associate VBR.

  4. In the Associate VBR dialog box, set the following parameters and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Resource owner

Select the account that owns the VBR resource. Valid values:

    • Your Account

    • Different Account: Select this option if the VBR belongs to a different Alibaba Cloud account. Before you can associate a cross-account VBR, the account that owns the VBR must grant permissions to the ECR. For more information, see Grant permissions to an ECR by using a VBR.

    Region

Select the region where the VBR resource is deployed.

    Peer account UID

Enter the UID of the peer Alibaba Cloud account.

    Note

This parameter is required only when Resource owner is set to Different Account.

    Networks

    Select the target VBR instance.

Allow Business Access Between Data Centers

Allows the VBR to communicate with other VBRs that are associated with the same ECR.

    Note

You can enable this feature now, or enable it later in Step 2.

Step 2: Enable access between data centers

If you did not enable the Allow inter-IDC business access switch when you added a VBR instance to an ECR instance, you can enable this feature in the following two ways.

  • Method 1: from the ECR details page

    1. Log on to the Express Connect Console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Express Connect Router (ECR). On the Express Connect Router (ECR) page, click the target ECR instance.

    3. On the VBR tab, find the target VBRs.

    4. In the Allow Access Between Data Centers column, turn on the switch for the VBR. In the dialog box that appears, click OK.

  • Method 2: from the VBR details page

    1. Log on to the Express Connect console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Virtual Border Routers (VBRs). On the Virtual Border Routers (VBRs) page, click the target VBR instance.

    3. In the Basic Information section, turn on the switch next to Support connect link. In the dialog box that appears, click OK.
