VBR instance diagnostics

Virtual Border Routers (VBRs) integrate with Network Intelligence Service (NIS) to provide one-click, instance-level diagnostics. This feature lets you check the configuration and operational status of an instance and provides intelligent suggestions to fix detected anomalies. The diagnostics cover four main categories: health check diagnostics, configuration diagnostics, quota limit diagnostics, and cost diagnostics. You can also view past diagnostic reports.

Prerequisites

Run instance diagnostics

  1. Log on to the Express Connect console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the target region. In the navigation pane on the left, click Virtual Border Routers (VBRs).

  3. On the Virtual Border Routers (VBRs) page, find the target VBR instance and click Diagnose in the Instance Health Diagnostics column.

  4. In the Instance Health Diagnostics panel, view the diagnostic progress, a results summary, and details for each item.

    • Items with anomalies are displayed directly in the panel. You can view the details for each.

    • In the Diagnostic Item Details area, select Show All Diagnostic Items to view all diagnostic items for the VBR.

    You can also click Go to the NIS console to view diagnostic records at the top of the Instance Health Diagnostics panel to open the NIS console and view detailed diagnostic records.

  5. After you review the diagnostic information, click Close.

Diagnostic items and details

Note

Diagnostic results are color-coded by severity level, based on their business impact:

  • Blue: Critical

  • Red: Major

  • Orange: Minor

  • Yellow: Informational

  • Green: Passed

The following table describes the diagnostic items supported by VBRs.

Category

Description

Health check diagnostics

  • Health Check Configuration: Verifies that a health check is configured for the Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) instance or the VBR uplink connection.

  • Health Check Packet Loss: Checks for packet loss in health check probes for a VBR uplink connection or a CEN instance.

Configuration diagnostics

  • Abnormal Physical Port Status: Checks the status of the physical port for the connected Express Connect circuit.

  • Direct Connection Address Reachability: Checks whether the Alibaba Cloud-side IP address of the VBR can ping the IP address in the customer data center.

  • Abnormal BGP Connection Status: Verifies that the BGP neighbor status on the VBR is Established.

  • VBR Redundancy: Checks whether some or all CIDR blocks in connections from a Transit Router (TR) in CEN to a VBR, or from a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) to a VBR, lack a redundant connection.

  • Abnormal Optical Signal on Physical Port: Checks whether the physical port on the Alibaba Cloud side can correctly receive optical signals from the customer data center.

Quota limit diagnostics

  • BGP Route Entry Limit Exceeded: Checks if the number of BGP route entries on the VBR exceeds the quota.

  • Rate-limit Packet Loss on VBR: Checks for packet loss caused by traffic exceeding the VBR bandwidth limit.

Cost diagnostics

  • VBR Overdue Payment: Checks for overdue payments on the VBR.

  • VBR Uplink Overdue Payment: Checks for overdue payments on the VBR uplink.

  • Physical Port Overdue Payment: Checks for overdue payments on the physical port associated with the VBR.
