Basic Global Accelerator instances deliver point-to-point acceleration over the Alibaba Cloud global transmission network.
Overview
Basic Global Accelerator instances accelerate traffic at Layer 3 (IP). Configure an acceleration area and an endpoint group to enable acceleration.
Access mode
Basic Global Accelerator instances support only accelerated IP addresses, which must be Elastic IP Address (EIP). Clients send requests to an accelerated IP address to reach the nearest access point on the Alibaba Cloud global transmission network.
Acceleration network
Basic GA instances provide one-to-one Layer 3 (IP) acceleration between acceleration regions and origin server regions.
GA routes traffic from the Alibaba Cloud global transmission network to backend services based on the mappings between accelerated IP addresses and endpoints.
Origin server connection
GA forwards client requests to backend services over private networks only. Supported endpoint types: elastic network interfaces (ENIs), Classic Load Balancer (CLB) instances, Network Load Balancer (NLB) instances, and Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances.
Limits
Limits on acceleration areas
-
Each basic GA instance supports only one acceleration area and one acceleration region. Only IPv4 clients are supported.
-
By default, each basic GA instance supports up to 20 accelerated IP addresses, of which up to 10 can be idle.
To add more accelerated IP addresses or increase the idle IP address quota, increase the gaplus_quota_basic_gaip_limit quota or the gaplus_quota_basic_gaip_idle_limit quota on the Quota Management page. For more information, see the Increase quotas section of the Manage GA quotas topic.
Bandwidth limits
Bandwidth limits for an acceleration region depend on the billing method and bandwidth metering method of the basic Global Accelerator instance.
|
Instance billing method |
Bandwidth metering method |
Bandwidth limits |
|
Pay-as-you-go |
Pay-by-data-transfer |
Specify the maximum bandwidth based on your business requirements. Bandwidth range: 2 Mbit/s to 20,000 Mbit/s. All accelerated IP addresses in the region share this bandwidth. |
|
Subscription |
Pay-by-bandwidth |
The acceleration region bandwidth is throttled to the maximum bandwidth of the basic bandwidth plan associated with the GA instance. Basic GA instances support only basic bandwidth plans that provide basic or premium bandwidth. |
Limits on endpoint groups
-
Each basic GA instance supports one endpoint group with up to 200 endpoints by default.
To add more endpoints, increase the gaplus_quota_basic_endpoint_limit quota on the Quota Management page. Manage GA quotas.
-
Supported endpoint types: secondary ENIs, CLB instances in VPCs, internal-facing NLB instances, and Elastic Compute Service instances. ENIs, CLB instances, NLB instances, and ECS instances cannot be associated with EIPs or static public IP addresses.
-
Basic GA instances created after August 1, 2023 support the use of multiple accelerated IP addresses in an acceleration region and private Network Load Balancer (NLB) endpoints. If your basic GA instance was created before this date and you want to use these features, contact your business manager to upgrade the instance.
-
If your Global Accelerator instances were created before August 1, 2023, the following limits apply:
-
Each GA instance supports only one acceleration area and one acceleration region.
-
Each GA instance supports only one endpoint group and one endpoint.
-
You cannot specify an NLB instance as an endpoint.
-
You do not need to add or associate accelerated IP addresses with endpoints.
-
Acceleration areas and regions supported by basic GA instances
The regions in the following table are for reference only. For a list of supported regions, refer to the console.
If the client is in a region that is not supported by GA, you can select the nearest acceleration region. Client traffic can enter the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network from the selected acceleration region through the accelerated IP address.
The following acceleration regions are not available by default. To use these regions, submit a request:
Contact your account manager: China (Nanjing), Brazil (Sao Paulo), Canada (Toronto), Canada (Vancouver), and Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh).
Request a privilege quota: China (Heyuan).
Log on to the Quota Center Privilege Quota List page and request the Acceleration Region Whitelist privilege quota (Quota ID: ga_whitelist/region_whitelist). For more information, see Increase Quotas.
With the Pay-by-traffic bandwidth billing method, basic Global Accelerator instances do not support endpoint groups in the UAE (Dubai) region.
