This topic describes how to remove an instance from a protection group. Follow these steps to remove a protected instance if it no longer requires disaster recovery protection.

Note

Removing a protected instance does not delete the ECS instance or its cloud disks on the production site.

  1. Log on to the Hybrid Cloud Disaster Recovery console.

  2. If the current page is for Cloud-to-Cloud Continuous Replication, click the image icon above the left navigation pane to switch to Asynchronous Replication for cloud disks.

  3. On the Site Pairs page, click the target site pair and go to the Protection Groups tab.

    • If the protection group is in the Initial Full Syncing or Syncing state, click Stop Replication and wait for the status to change to Initialized.

      • If the protection group is in the Initialized or Failover Completed state, click Manage Protected Instances in the Actions column. On the Protected Instances page, click Remove Protected Instance in the Actions column for the target instance and wait for the task to complete. The system then automatically deletes the ECS instance and its cloud disks at the recovery site.

    • If the protection group is in the Reverse Initial Full Syncing or Reverse Syncing state, click Stop Reverse Replication and wait for the status to change to Failover Confirmed.

      • If the protection group is in the Failover Completed or Failover Confirmed state, click Manage Protected Instances in the Actions column.

        Note

Record the Protected Instance ID from the Protected Instances page if you plan to delete the corresponding ECS instance and its cloud disks at the recovery site later.

On the Protected Instances page, click Remove Protected Instance in the Actions column for the target instance and wait for the task to complete. In this scenario, the ECS instance at the recovery site is treated as a production instance, so the system does not automatically delete the instance or its cloud disks.

To delete the ECS instance and its cloud disks at the recovery site:

        1. In the ECS console, go to the Instances page. Switch to the region of the recovery site. Find the target ECS instance by using its tags: CreatedBy=DR and DrProtectionId=<Protected Instance ID>. In the Actions column, click the image icon and select Release. Configure the release settings and confirm the release.

        2. If any unattached cloud disks remain, select Block Storage in the left navigation pane. Find the cloud disks with the tag CreatedBy=DR. In the Actions column, click Release and confirm the action to delete the cloud disk.
