Purchase a Hologres instance

Procedure

1. Go to the Hologres product page.

2. Click Buy Now.

   Note

   • If a RAM permission error occurs, grant the required permissions to the current RAM user. For more information, see Grant permissions to a RAM user.

   • If this is your first time purchasing a Hologres instance, scroll to the Service-linked Role section at the bottom of the purchase page and click Create Service-linked Role.

3. Select a Commodity Type.

   Product type	Description
   Exclusive Instance	Provides dedicated computing resources, millisecond-level response times, and a full set of features. Subscription: Ideal for long-term use with significant discounts and lower prices. Pay-as-you-go: Ideal for short-term use, billed by the hour. You can use compute resource plans to reduce costs. You can convert between Subscription and Pay-as-you-go billing methods.
   Shared Cluster (Lakehouse Acceleration Edition)	Differences from an Exclusive Instance: Features: Only supports accelerating queries on data in MaxCompute and Object Storage Service (OSS). You cannot import data into Hologres internal tables. Billing: Charges are based on the amount of data scanned per query. For more information, see Billing. Use case: Ideal for accelerating infrequent queries on data in MaxCompute and OSS to achieve sub-second response times.

   You cannot convert between an Exclusive Instance and a Shared Cluster after the purchase. For more information, see Comparison of Exclusive Instances and Shared Clusters.

4. Select a Region and Zone.

   • Hologres can connect to other Alibaba Cloud services over an internal network only when they are in the same region and VPC. If they are in different regions, you must connect over the public internet or use a method such as VPC peering to establish an internal network connection.

   • You cannot change the region and zone after the instance is created.

   • The choice of zone does not significantly affect connectivity or performance.

5. Configure the instance specifications based on the product type.

Exclusive instance

Parameter	Description
Instance Type	General-purpose: Provides a rich set of features and supports load isolation and horizontal scaling by using read-only secondary instances. Virtual Warehouse: Provides better load isolation, more flexible access control, and more convenient connection management than the general-purpose type. You can also configure parameters independently for each Virtual Warehouse. Virtual Warehouse instances have additional gateway fees but offer more granular scaling. Serverless: Designed for the pay-as-you-go billing model. You do not need to purchase computing resources in advance. You are billed for the Serverless resources and storage you use. For more information, see What is a Hologres Serverless instance?. For more information, see Virtual Warehouse instances.
computing resources	If you select General-purpose, configure the following parameter: Computing Resources: Select resources based on your needs. You can scale them up or down later. For sizing guidance, see Instance specifications. If you select Virtual Warehouse, configure the following parameters: Number of Gateway Nodes: Gateway nodes forward requests. A minimum of two nodes is required to ensure high availability. You can use the default value of 2 and adjust it later. reserved computing resources: Ranges from 32 CUs to 8,192 CUs, in increments of 16 CUs. You can scale the resources up or down later. For sizing guidance, see Instance specifications. Note A single Virtual Warehouse requires at least 32 CUs. Purchase reserved computing resources based on the number of Virtual Warehouses you need. For more information about Virtual Warehouse instances, see Virtual Warehouse instances. Allocate to Initial Virtual Warehouse: This is a fixed value and requires no configuration.
Serverless Computing	When enabled, specific DML statements use an independent Serverless resource pool to prevent resource waste and contention. Note This feature is subject to region and zone availability. For more information, see Serverless Computing user guide. You can also enable or disable this feature after the instance is created.
storage resources	For subscription instances, you can purchase storage space (Standard Storage and Infrequent Access Storage). Storage usage that exceeds your purchased capacity is automatically billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. You can also purchase storage space after the instance is created. If you do not purchase storage space, all storage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis by default. Storage Redundancy Type: Locally Redundant Storage supports only single-zone deployment, where data is stored in a single zone, which poses a high availability risk. If your service requires high availability, we recommend that you select Zone-redundant Storage (ZRS) (3 AZ). network resources	VPC: Hologres can connect to other Alibaba Cloud services over an internal network only when they are in the same region and VPC. If they are in different regions, you must connect over the public internet or use a method such as VPC peering to establish an internal network connection. vSwitch: The choice of vSwitch does not significantly affect connectivity or performance. Note VPCs and vSwitches are free of charge.

Shared cluster

network resources:

• VPC: Hologres can connect to other Alibaba Cloud services over an internal network only when they are in the same region and VPC. If they are in different VPCs, you must connect over the public internet or use a method such as VPC peering to establish an internal network connection.

• vSwitch: The choice of vSwitch does not significantly affect connectivity or performance.

Note

VPCs and vSwitches are free of charge.

6. Set the Instance Name and Resource Group. For Subscription instances, also set the Duration. Then, click Buy Now.

7. On the Confirm Order page, review your configuration, read and agree to the terms of service, and then click Enable.

8. On the Activation Completed page, confirm that the activation is successful. Creation of the Hologres instance takes a few minutes. Click management console .

9. On the Instances page of the HologresHologres console, view the details of the instance. A Status of Running indicates the instance was created successfully.
