Key concepts
Storage
Storage refers to the amount of data you store in Hologres, excluding data replicas. You are billed for your actual usage, which includes business data and metadata. For specific billing details, refer to your bill. Storage is measured in gigabytes (GB).
Compute capacity
For an exclusive instance, compute capacity is the total computing resources required for operations in Hologres, such as writes and queries. It is measured in compute units (CUs). One CU is equivalent to 1 core and 4 GB of memory.
For an exclusive instance, compute capacity also includes the resources used by these features:
When you run SQL jobs using the Serverless Computing feature, the amount of computation is the amount of serverless computing resources used. The unit is the Compute Unit (CU)-hour.
For additional computing resources provisioned using the time-specific scaling feature, you are billed for the scaled-out resources, measured in CU-hours.
Network traffic
Network traffic is the data transferred over the network when you use the cross-region snapshot replication feature. It is measured in gigabytes (GB).
Billing
Hologres dedicated instances support two billing methods: subscription and pay-as-you-go. You are billed for three types of resources (compute, storage, and network) and their associated billable items. The following figure provides more details.
Dedicated instances support advanced features such as Serverless Computing, backup and recovery, and cross-region snapshot replication, regardless of the billing method. Hologres bills the compute, storage, and network resources consumed by these features on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Subscription
With this pre-paid billing method, you estimate the compute and storage resources you need and pay for a monthly or yearly plan in advance. For more information, see Subscription.
Pay-as-you-go
This is a post-paid billing method. Compute fees depend on the specifications of the compute resources you purchase and the instance runtime. Storage fees depend on your actual storage usage and storage duration. You are billed hourly. For more information, see Pay-as-you-go.
NoteYou are billed hourly for compute resources even if no tasks are running on the instance.

Cost calculation
Hologres costs are based on the billing method (subscription or pay-as-you-go) and the region. For details on the billing rules for each billable item and how to stop charges, see Billing rules for each billable item.
The following examples illustrate how costs are calculated:
Scenario 1
Under the subscription model, assume you need 500 GB of Standard storage and 64 CUs of compute resources per month for a 6-month term. If your resources are in the China (Hangzhou) region, the total prepaid cost is calculated as follows: (CNY 170 × 64 × 6) + (CNY 1 × 500 × 6) = CNY 68,280.
Scenario 2
Under the subscription model, you initially purchase 100 GB of Infrequent Access storage. However, due to rapid business growth, your usage increases to 200 GB within a single hour. If your resources are in the China (Hangzhou) region, you are billed for the excess storage as follows: (200 - 100) × CNY 0.00030 = CNY 0.03.
Scenario 3
In the pay-as-you-go model, you provision 64 CUs of compute resources and use 100 GB of storage for one hour. If your resources are in the China (Hangzhou) region, the total cost for that hour is calculated as follows: (CNY 0.3542 × 64 × 1) + (CNY 0.0021 × 100 × 1) = CNY 22.8788.

Billing cycle
Hologres bills are issued on the following schedule:
Subscription: When you purchase a subscription instance, a bill for the prepayment is sent to your Alibaba Cloud account. If your storage usage exceeds the subscribed capacity, the overage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. A bill for this overage is sent to your Alibaba Cloud account every hour.
Pay-as-you-go: Bills are sent to your Alibaba Cloud account hourly.
Billing methods
Hologres offers two billing methods. Review the following to determine the best option for your business.
Pay-as-you-go: Recommended for development and testing projects with unpredictable jobs or small data volumes. This method provides excellent cost control because you pay only for the resources you use.
Subscription: Recommended for stable jobs in a production environment.
