Intelligent Production lets you create online editing projects from templates. You can edit a common template to configure adaptive material behavior and random transition effects.
Prerequisites
Ensure you have created and used a common template. For more information, see Create and use a common template.
Edit a common template
-
Log on to the Intelligent Media Services console.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
-
On the Common Templates tab, find the template to edit and click Edit Template in the Actions column.
-
Configure adaptive material settings
In the editing area, click a video, audio, or subtitle. On the Dynamic Material Management tab, ensure that the material is replaceable, and then click Advanced Settings in the Actions column. The following parameters are available:
Material type
Parameter
Value and description
Video
Replacement video duration is longer than the template slot
-
Adapt to template slot (default): If the sample video is cropped, the replacement video is also cropped using the same in-point. If this in-point is outside the replacement video's duration, the production fails. If the sample video is not cropped, the replacement video is trimmed from the start to fit the slot.
-
Truncate to fit: Ignores any cropping on the sample video. The replacement video is trimmed from the start to fit the slot.
-
Select random segment: Ignores any cropping on the sample video. A segment that matches the slot's duration is randomly selected from the replacement video.
Replacement video duration is shorter than the template slot
-
Adapt to template slot (default): If the sample video in the slot is cropped, the replacement video is also cropped. The production fails if the crop in-point is beyond the duration of the replacement video. Regardless of whether the sample was cropped, the replacement video's last frame is held to fill the remaining duration of the slot.
-
Fill with black frames: After the replacement video finishes, the remaining duration of the slot is filled with black frames.
-
Hold last frame: After the replacement video finishes, its last frame is held for the slot's remaining duration.
Replacement video scaling
-
Stretch (default): Stretches the replacement video to match the exact dimensions of the slot. This may cause distortion.
-
Scale to fit: Proportionally scales the video to the largest size that fits entirely within the frame. For best results, set a Background fill rule on the Basic tab.
-
Scale to fill: Scales the video proportionally until it fills the entire frame. If the aspect ratios differ, parts of the video may be cropped.
Audio
Replacement audio duration is longer than the template slot
-
Adapt to template slot (default): If the sample audio in the slot is trimmed, the replacement audio is also trimmed using the same in-point. The production fails if the trim in-point is beyond the duration of the replacement audio. If the sample audio is not trimmed, the replacement audio is trimmed from the beginning to match the slot duration.
-
Truncate to fit: Ignores any trimming on the sample audio. The replacement audio is trimmed from the beginning to match the slot duration.
-
Select random segment: Ignores any trimming on the sample audio. A segment that matches the slot's duration is randomly selected from the replacement audio.
Replacement audio duration is shorter than the template slot
-
Adapt to template slot (default): If the sample audio in the slot is trimmed, the replacement audio is also trimmed. The production fails if the trim in-point is beyond the duration of the replacement audio. Regardless of whether the sample was trimmed, the remaining duration of the slot is silent.
-
Play once and stop: The audio plays once, leaving the remainder of the slot silent.
-
Loop: The audio loops until the end of the slot.
Subtitle
If replacement text is too long for the text area
-
No adaptation (default): Keeps the original font size, style, and position. If the text is too long, it may extend beyond the visible area.
-
Wrap text: Keeps the original font size and style. Text that exceeds the text area boundary automatically wraps to a new line.
-
Shrink text to fit: Automatically reduces the font size to keep the text on a single line. Very long text may become illegible.

Configure random transition settings
In the editing area, click a transition effect. On the Random Effect Settings tab, ensure that the effect can be randomly replaced, and then click a value in the Random effect set column. The available values are described below:
Random effect set
Description
All
Selects a random transition effect from the system library. The original transition's duration is retained.
Custom set
Selects a random transition effect from a custom list that you define. The duration of the original transition effect is retained.
NoteThe original transition effect is a mandatory item in the list and cannot be removed.
