This topic describes how to migrate data, such as projects, applications, and devices, from a legacy public instance to an Enterprise Edition instance.

Prerequisites

Limitations

  • You can only migrate data, including standard projects, applications, and devices, from a legacy public instance to an Enterprise Edition instance.

To understand the differences between legacy public instances and new public instances, see Instance overview.

  • This feature is available only in a commercial edition (Enterprise Edition or Ultimate Edition).

Procedure

  1. Log on to the IoT Studio console. In the upper-left corner, select public instance. In the navigation pane on the left, click Project Management.

  2. On the Project Management page, in the standard projects section, find the Migrate to Enterprise Edition Instance card and click Start Migration.

Step 1: Select the destination Enterprise Edition instance

  1. From the Select projects to migrate list, select the projects that you want to migrate.

  2. From the Select a destination Enterprise Edition instance for migration list, select the destination Enterprise Edition instance that you have purchased.

    Important

If the projects you select for migration include any of the following, note these points:

    • The projects use data analytics-related services.

After the migration, you must reconfigure these services in IoT Platform.

    • The projects use dashboard components.

Dashboard components are not available in commercial editions at this time. These components will be lost after migration. Confirm that you want to proceed.

    • After devices are successfully migrated, features of their associated projects become unavailable. You must migrate the projects promptly.

  3. Click Next.

Step 2: Migrate project devices

Before you start the project migration, you must use the instance migration tool in IoT Platform to migrate the devices associated with the project to the destination Enterprise Edition instance.

  1. Click View Devices to be Migrated to confirm the devices to be migrated.

    Note

If the project has no devices, you can skip device migration and click Next to proceed to the final step of project migration.

  2. Click Go to Migration to navigate to IoT Platform and create a migration task.

To migrate devices and other data from a legacy public instance, follow these steps in order: create a migration task, perform a grayscale migration, and then perform a full migration. For detailed instructions, see Instance migration procedure.

  3. When the migration task status for the specified product changes to Migration Completed, the device data for that product has been migrated to the Enterprise Edition instance.

  4. Return to the Migrate project devices page and click Next.

Step 3: Migrate the project

  1. On the Migrate project page, click Start Migration.

Do not edit the project during the migration process.

  2. After the project and its devices are migrated, you can click Back to Project List to view the result.

  3. After the migration is complete, immediately verify that your services are running correctly. If they are not, stop all new operations and initiate a rollback immediately.

Roll back a project migration

You can roll back completed project migrations if necessary.

  1. Log on to the IoT Studio console. In the upper-left corner, select public instance. In the navigation pane on the left, click Project Management.

  2. On the Project Management page, in the standard projects section, find the Migrate to Enterprise Edition Instance card and click Migration History.

  3. On the Migration History page, find the project that you want to roll back and click Roll Back in the Actions column.

    Note

After you click Roll Back, do not perform any other operations on the project.

Step 1: Roll back project devices

  1. On the Roll Back Enterprise Edition Instance Migration page, click View Devices to be Rolled Back to confirm the devices to be rolled back.

    Note

If the project has no devices, you can skip the device rollback and click Next to proceed to the final step of project rollback.

  2. Click Go to Rollback to navigate to IoT Platform and roll back the migrated devices.

  3. On the Migration List tab, find the migration task, click Roll Back in the Actions column, and then click Confirm. For detailed instructions, see Optional: Roll back a migration task.

After the rollback is complete, all data from this migration becomes invalid, and the migration task status reverts to Pending Migration.

  4. Return to the Roll Back Enterprise Edition Instance Migration page and click Next.

Step 2: Roll back the project

  1. On the Roll back project page, once the device rollback is complete, click Start Rollback.

Do not edit the project during the rollback process.

  2. After the rollback succeeds, you can click Back to Project List to view the result.

On the Migration History page, the migration status of the rolled-back project changes to Rollback Completed.
