Overview
IoT Studio offers a component development feature that allows developers to create, publish, and manage their own components. These components can be used in the WYSIWYG designer to build visualization pages. This feature helps meet developer needs, enriches the component library, and offers endless possibilities for building visualization pages.
Instructions
The component development feature is currently undergoing an upgrade. Requests from new users to be added to the whitelist are temporarily suspended.
Users who are already on the whitelist can continue to use the component development feature.
Background information
The web visualization development environment in IoT Studio provides many components for building web pages. However, the number of official components is limited and may not meet all user needs. To address this issue, IoT Studio introduced the component development feature.
IoT Studio components currently use the React technology stack. Any standard React component can be used as an IoT Studio component. IoT Studio enhances React components with powerful capabilities. These capabilities include configuring API data sources, scheduling API calls, and dynamically setting component styles, such as font and color, based on API responses. Components can also provide custom services for external calls.
Features
- Private and public components
The component development workbench supports the development of private components. These components are visible only to their developer. You can package and upload private components as public component packages for other customers to use. These public components can later be made available for commercial use.
- Powerful local development
You can use the local component development tool (material-cli) to develop and compile components in real time and upload them to the component development workbench. The workbench supports real-time previews and lets you simulate a production environment to see how components look and behave.
- Component management
The component development workbench provides management features. These features include creating, searching, editing, deleting, and publishing components. This helps developers manage and use a wide variety of components.
- Fast uploads and builds
The component development workbench supports one-click uploads and lets you view build progress. You can package a developed component into a ZIP file and upload it with a single click. After the upload, you can view the build progress in real time. The IoT Studio system sends the build results to the workbench and generates build logs. If a build fails, you can check the logs to find the cause.
- Component documentation management
The component development workbench provides a Markdown editor with preview and auto-save features. You can use this editor to create component documentation. This documentation includes required sections for an overview, style configuration, data source configuration, and action configuration. For components intended for the marketplace, a feature for editing use cases is also provided to assist with commercialization.
- One-click publishing
The component development workbench provides a one-click publishing feature and supports multiple releases for a component. After the code is built, you can publish the component with a single click. If a component is published multiple times, you can view its release history and manage its release statuses.
