Public instance
New public instances are not billed. This topic provides examples of how IoT Platform calculates fees for previous versions of public instances based on device connection duration and message quantity.

Example 1
Consider a scenario with 10,000 devices. Each device is online twice a day: once for 2 hours and once for 6 hours, for a total of 8 hours per day. While online, each device sends an average of one message per minute. Each message is 0.5 KB or smaller. The month has 30 days.
Billing method:
- Message communication fee
Number of messages per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 messages.
Monthly communication fee (CNY): Based on the tiered billing rules, the first 100,000,000 messages are billed at CNY 1.8 per 1,000,000 messages. The remaining 44,000,000 messages are billed at CNY 1.4 per 1,000,000 messages. The total communication fee is: 100 × 1.8 + 44 × 1.4 = CNY 241.6.
- Device connection duration fee
Device connection minutes per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 minutes.
The monthly billing rate for device connection duration is CNY 1 per 1,000,000 minutes. The connection duration fee is: 144 × 1 = CNY 144.
- Total monthly fee (CNY): 241.6 + 144 = CNY 385.6.
Example 2
Consider a scenario with 10,000 devices. Each device is online twice a day: once for 2 hours and once for 6 hours, for a total of 8 hours per day. While online, each device sends an average of one message per minute, and each message is 0.5 KB or smaller. Each device also receives one 0.4 KB message per minute. The month has 30 days.
Billing method:
- Message communication fee
Number of sent messages per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 messages.
Number of received messages per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 messages.
Total number of messages per month: 144,000,000 + 144,000,000 = 288,000,000 messages.
Monthly communication fee (CNY): Based on the tiered billing rules, the first 100,000,000 messages are billed at CNY 1.8 per 1,000,000 messages. The remaining 188,000,000 messages are billed at CNY 1.4 per 1,000,000 messages. The total communication fee is: 100 × 1.8 + 188 × 1.4 = CNY 443.2.
- Device connection duration fee
Device connection minutes per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 minutes.
The monthly billing rate for device connection duration is CNY 1 per 1,000,000 minutes. The connection duration fee is: 144 × 1 = CNY 144.
- Total monthly fee (CNY): 443.2 + 144 = CNY 587.2.
Example 3
Consider a scenario with 10,000 devices. Each device is online twice a day: once for 2 hours and once for 6 hours, for a total of 8 hours per day. While online, each device sends an average of one 0.6 KB message per minute and receives one 0.4 KB message per minute. The month has 30 days.
Billing method:
- Message communication fee
Number of sent messages per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 × 2 = 288,000,000 messages.
Note Each sent message is 0.6 KB, which is larger than 512 bytes. Therefore, each sent message is billed as two messages. For more information about how IoT Platform calculates messages, see Billing methods.Number of received messages per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 messages.
Total number of messages per month: 288,000,000 + 144,000,000 = 432,000,000 messages.
Monthly communication fee (CNY): Based on the tiered billing rules, the first 100,000,000 messages are billed at CNY 1.8 per 1,000,000 messages. The remaining 332,000,000 messages are billed at CNY 1.4 per 1,000,000 messages. The total communication fee is: 100 × 1.8 + 332 × 1.4 = CNY 644.8.
- Device connection duration fee
Device connection minutes per month: 60 × 8 × 30 × 10,000 = 144,000,000 minutes.
The monthly billing rate for device connection duration is CNY 1 per 1,000,000 minutes. The connection duration fee is: 144 × 1 = CNY 144.
- Total monthly fee (CNY): 644.8 + 144 = CNY 788.8.
