IoT Platform uses instances to manage devices. You can assign each instance to a test or production environment to separate and manage devices from different development stages. This topic describes how to view and configure instance environments.

Background

For more information about instances, see Instance Overview.

Instance environments

  • The default environment for an Enterprise Edition instance is the production environment. The instance appears on the Production Environment tab.

You can change the environment of an instance. After the change, the instance is moved to the tab that corresponds to the new environment.

  • You cannot change the environment for a public instance.

    • The default environment for a public instance of the new version is the test environment, and it appears on the Test Environment tab.

    • The default environment for a public instance of the old version is the production environment, and it appears on the Production Environment tab.

View instances in different environments

  1. Log on to the IoT Platform console.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the console, select the target region.

  3. On the Instance Overview tab, view instances in different environments.

    • On the Instance Overview tab, instances are listed by instance environment. By default, the All Environments tab displays all instances of IoT Platform, and each instance card shows the corresponding instance environment.

    • The Production Environment and Test Environment tabs list the instances in each environment. The number of instances in each environment is shown on the corresponding tab.

Click the All environments tab to view all instances. Each instance card includes an environment tag (for example, Production Environment).

Change an Enterprise instance environment

The default environment for all Enterprise Edition instances, including MQTT-based, Standard, and Exclusive types, is the production environment. You can change the environment for these instances.

  1. On the Instance Overview tab, find the target instance and click the Manage image icon in the upper-right corner of the instance card.

  2. Click Edit instance information.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, next to Instance Environment, click the Edit image icon.

  4. In the tooltip that appears, click the drop-down menu and select Production Environment or Test Environment.

  5. Click Save.

After you save the change, the instance moves to the tab for the selected environment.
