Activate a new public instance
The new public instance service is inactive by default. You must manually activate it before you can start a trial. After activation, the instance runs with fixed default specifications.
Background information
-
For details about the new and previous versions of IoT Platform public instances, see Instance Overview.
-
For billing details, see Billing Overview. New public instances are free of charge and have the following default resource specifications:
-
Maximum concurrent devices: 50. You can create a total of 500 devices.
-
Message communication TPS: 5.
-
Message forwarding TPS: 5.
-
Over-the-air (OTA) updates: 10 per calendar month.
-
Procedure
-
The public instance service is currently available in the China (Shanghai), Singapore, Japan (Tokyo), US (Virginia), US (Silicon Valley), and Germany (Frankfurt) regions.
-
If you recently activated the IoT Platform service on your Alibaba Cloud account, a new public instance is created by default. You must activate it to start a trial.
-
Log on to the IoT Platform console.
-
In the top navigation bar, select a region.
-
On the Overview tab, in the Public Instance card, click Activate.
NoteBefore activation, you cannot click the Public Instance card or access the instance's feature pages.
-
In the dialog box that appears, read the content and select the I have read and agree to the preceding terms checkbox.
The dialog box states that activation is irreversible. It also notes: if no devices are active for 30 consecutive days, the platform automatically freezes the public instance, but you can restore it from the console without data loss. Additionally, after you activate an IoT Platform public instance, you can no longer activate Link Living; doing so permanently deletes all data from the public instance.
-
Click Confirm Activation.
NoteActivation may take a moment. Wait for the process to complete.
Result
After activation, the Public Instance card shows a status of Activated, and you can start using the instance features.
The card also displays basic instance information, such as the instance ID (starting with iot-) and the creation date.
