IoT Platform provides a new version and a legacy version of its real-time monitoring service. This topic describes the features of both versions to help you choose the version that meets your business requirements.

Feature comparison

Feature	New real-time monitoring	Legacy real-time monitoring
Supported regions	China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), and China (Shenzhen).	All regions that the IoT Platform console supports.
Supported instances	Enterprise instances. For more information about instances, see View and configure instance endpoint information (Endpoint).	Public instances and Enterprise instances.
Monitored data metrics	This version supports custom monitoring metrics. For more information, see Custom monitoring metrics.	You can view data such as the number of online devices, upstream and downstream messages, messages forwarded by the rules engine, and the device network status. CloudMonitor alerting feature	You can configure threshold-based alerts and view the alert history. For more information, see Configure threshold-based alert rules.	You can configure one-click, subscription-based, threshold-based, and event-based alerts. For more information, see Configure alert rules.

Console usage comparison

In the IoT Platform console, select a region in the upper-left corner and click the target instance. In the navigation pane on the left, choose O&M > Real-time Monitoring. The following table describes the features on the page.

Supported regions	The selectable regions are China (Shanghai), China (Beijing), and China (Shenzhen).	Select any region that the IoT Platform console supports.
Supported instances	Only Enterprise instances are available.	Select a public instance or an Enterprise instance.
Monitored data metrics	On the Monitoring Report tab, you can configure and view statistics for data metrics.	For public instances: On the Data Metrics and Device Network Status tabs, you can view statistics for data metrics. For Enterprise instances: In the upper-right corner, click Back to Legacy Version to access the Data Metrics and Device Network Status tabs. Note After you navigate away from the legacy version page, you must click Back to Legacy Version on the Real-time Monitoring page again to return to the legacy version.
CloudMonitor alerting feature	On the Alerting Rules tab, you can configure and view threshold-based alert rules.	On the Data Metrics tab, click Alerting Configuration to configure alert rules.
