Billing methods
1. Pay-as-you-go pricing
Each Alibaba Cloud account receives a monthly free quota of one million characters. RAM users share the free quota of the Alibaba Cloud account. Characters that exceed the free quota are charged at CNY 50 per one million characters.
2. Resource plan pricing
You can purchase prepaid resource plans. The prices are listed in the following table. To purchase a resource plan, see Purchase Resource Plan.

Metering method
The number of characters is calculated based on the length of the source text. Punctuation marks, spaces, and HTML tags are included in the character count. Each Chinese character, English letter, and punctuation mark is counted as one character. For example:

Deduction method
Deduction order
Resources are consumed in the following order: 1. The monthly free quota of one million characters, 2. Resource plans, 3. Pay-as-you-go.
Stackable resource plans
You can stack resource plans of the same type. The plan with the earliest expiration date is consumed first.
Non-interchangeable resource plans
Resource plans for different service editions are not interchangeable.
Resource plan validity
Resource plans are valid for one year.
Example
A user purchases a 30 million-character General-purpose Edition resource plan, a 10 million-character General-purpose Edition resource plan, and a 10 million-character Professional Edition resource plan. The user then translates 50 million characters with the General-purpose Edition.
The character usage is deducted as follows: The 1 million-character free quota is consumed first. Then, the 30 million-character General-purpose plan is consumed, followed by the 10 million-character General-purpose plan. The remaining 9 million characters are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Activate the service
You can activate the General-purpose Edition of Machine Translation in the Machine Translation console.
