The Audio and Video Translation Online Editing Platform is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform included with Alibaba Cloud's Audio and Video Translation service. Enable the service on the Audio and Video Translation details page to use a free quota or purchase a resource package. You can then access the platform from the Audio and Video Translation product card in the Machine Translation Console.

I. Purchase process

  1. Go to the Alibaba Cloud Audio and Video Translation details page and click Enable Now.

  1. After you enable the service, click Management Console to open the console.

After you place your order, service activation typically takes 1 to 5 minutes.

  1. On the Audio and Video Translation product card in the console, click Buy Resource Package and purchase a package based on your needs. If you do not purchase a resource package, usage beyond the free quota is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

    Note
    • After purchasing a resource package, go to the Online Translation Platform to translate your audio and video files.

    • Resource packages are available for purchase from the console or directly from the Online Translation Platform.

On the Audio and Video Translation product card in the console, click Buy Resource Package. The purchase page displays the available resource package specifications, billed by audio or video duration. Select the package that meets your needs.

II. Platform operations

1. Select languages

On the Audio and Video Translation page, select a source language and a target language. For example, choose Simplified Chinese from the Source Language list and English (US) from the Target Language list.

2. Upload audio or video

On the Audio and Video Translation page, set the Industry/Field (defaults to the system-recommended option), Source Language, Target Language, and Identification Method (speech recognition or subtitle recognition). Then, click Click to upload a local video to start translation. Supported formats are mp4, mp3, mov, and wav. The maximum file size is 1,024 MB.

3. Post-editing

After the Audio and Video Translation job is complete, click Go to Edit to open the post-editing page.

Edit subtitle content

The post-editing interface is divided into several areas. On the left is the video player, which plays the video and previews the bilingual subtitles. Below the player, the style panel lets you adjust parameters such as Font Size, Character Spacing, Bottom Distance, Font, Stroke Color, and Background. The subtitle list on the right contains the timestamp, source text, and target text for each subtitle, allowing for line-by-line editing. At the bottom, the timeline track displays the time distribution of each subtitle segment.

Split subtitles

In the subtitle editing area, place the cursor where you want to split a subtitle and click the ✂ Split by Cursor floating button to divide it into two independent subtitles.

Merge subtitles

To merge a subtitle with an adjacent one, click the Merge icon, which is located in the icon column to the left of the subtitle row.

Retranslate subtitle

To re-translate a single subtitle, click the Translate icon located between its source and target text areas.

Delete subtitle

On the left of each subtitle row, three action buttons are available: Delete (trash can icon), Merge, and Add. Click the Delete icon to remove the current subtitle row.

Batch replace

In the Tools tab, the batch processing area provides actions such as Batch Machine Translation, Clear Translations, Remove Empty Subtitles, Remove Ending Punctuation, Convert Line Breaks to Double Subtitles, and Swap Primary and Secondary Subtitles. The Batch Replace area includes Replaced Content and Replace With input boxes, and supports batch replacement by selecting the Ignore Case checkbox.

Modify subtitle timestamps

In the subtitle list on the right side of the editing interface, you can directly modify the start timestamp and end timestamp fields (for example, 00:00:45.610 and 00:00:47.947) for each subtitle to adjust its display time.

Subtitle styles

In the subtitle style settings panel in the lower-left corner, you can adjust the following parameters. In the Size section, you can set the font size (default: 20px), character spacing (default: 0px), and bottom distance (default: 10px). In the Color section, you can set the font color (white) and stroke color (black). In the Background section, you can enable a background and adjust its opacity and shadow. In the Other section, you can select a font (such as Roboto) and toggle bold or italic styles.

4. Preview settings

Preview mode

On the preview page, the video player plays the video with subtitles. The player's control bar on the right provides buttons to switch between display modes, such as Web Fullscreen. Below the video, the Style settings panel includes the following options: Size (font size 25px, character spacing 0px, bottom distance 10px), Color (font color, stroke color), Background (toggle switch, opacity 88%, shadow 0px), and Other (Tahoma font, bold, italic).

Subtitle display

In the video preview area, click the subtitle toggle button to open a drop-down menu where you can select the Bilingual Subtitles, Primary Subtitle, or Secondary Subtitle display mode. The style settings panel below lets you configure subtitle properties like size, color, and background.

Playback speed

The video preview supports adjusting the playback speed. You can select 0.75X, 1X (default), 1.25X, 1.5X, 1.75X, or 2X.

5. Export video or subtitles

Note

The export process can take several minutes. Clicking the Export button again while an export is in progress has no effect and does not incur an additional charge. If you update the content, wait for the current export to finish before you click Export again, as each new export is charged separately.

In the Export dialog box, configure the Export Content (video or subtitles), File Format (MP4 or FLV), Subtitles (Bilingual, Primary Subtitle, or Secondary Subtitle), and Resolution (480p, 720p, or 1080p). Then, click Download.
