How do I estimate the number of CUs to purchase when switching from pay-as-you-go to subscription?

MaxCompute measures computing resources in compute units (CUs). The right number of CUs depends on your job requirements. Start with a small number—at least 50 CUs—and adjust based on actual usage.

After purchasing subscription resources, monitor your usage with either of these tools:

For more information about resource planning, see Resource planning and specification selection.

How do subscription computing resources work?

Subscription computing resources are exclusive resources allocated based on the number of CUs you purchase. Configure quota groups for your computing resources and set resource scheduling periods for each quota group. See Manage quotas in the new MaxCompute console. For best practices on subscription resources, see Time-based quota for subscription resources or Resource isolation for subscription resources.

However, if the pay-as-you-go billing method is already enabled in the same region and you have many jobs, consider using the subscription billing method for jobs that consume fewer resources and the pay-as-you-go billing method for jobs that consume more resources. This ensures that compute resources are always available when your jobs run. For more information about using pay-as-you-go resources in a subscription project, see Use pay-as-you-go resources in a subscription project.

Do I need to purchase computing resources in advance for a pay-as-you-go project?

No. Computing jobs in your MaxCompute project preempt computing resources on demand—no advance purchase required. See Pay-as-you-go.

Can multiple projects in the same region use the Developer Edition?

No. Only one project in a region can use the Developer Edition of MaxCompute resources. In addition, only newly created projects can use the Developer Edition. For more information about the pay-as-you-go Developer Edition, see Pay-as-you-go Developer Edition.
