Notice: Release of OCS instances on the free tier on June 1, 2021
Alibaba Cloud will release idle Open Cache Service (OCS) instances on the free tier starting June 1, 2021. OCS is the legacy version of Memcache. To build high-speed cache systems for your services, migrate your cache layer to ApsaraDB for Memcache or ApsaraDB for Redis.
Scope of release
Idle OCS (legacy version of Memcache) instances on the free tier.
An instance is considered idle if no read or write operations were performed on it and no data was stored in it between February 28, 2021 and May 29, 2021.
For more information about OCS and Memcache, see Major upgrades to ApsaraDB for Memcache. To log on to an OCS instance, go to the ApsaraDB for Memcache console, then click Back to the old OCS console in the upper-right corner of the page.
Release time
Starting June 1, 2021, instances will be released in batches.
Impacts
Alibaba Cloud will notify you in advance by email or internal message. After an instance is released, its data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Because the instance is idle, this operation will not affect your services.
Recommendations
To improve the product experience, Alibaba Cloud will retire the OCS service in the future. Plan your migration in advance and move your workloads to ApsaraDB for Memcache or ApsaraDB for Redis.
