Storage plans are subscription (upfront) resource plans offered by ApsaraDB for MongoDB that can offset the storage costs of pay-as-you-go replica set instances. This topic describes what storage plans are, how to purchase them, and how to view their usage.
Overview of storage plans
Storage plans combine the flexibility of the pay-as-you-go billing method with the low prices of a subscription.
Item | Description |
Applicable objects | Storage plans can offset the storage costs of pay-as-you-go replica set instances in a specified region under your Alibaba Cloud account. If a storage plan has insufficient capacity, the excess usage is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis and deducted from your account balance. |
Types | Storage plans are available in two types: China (Mainland) - General and Hong Kong (China) and International - General.
|
Offset order | You can purchase multiple storage plans. They are applied to offset costs in order of their expiration dates. The plan that expires first is used first. |
Renewal or upgrade/downgrade | Not supported. If a storage plan has insufficient capacity, is about to expire, or has expired, you can purchase another storage plan to stack. |
Can I unsubscribe? | Storage plans can be unsubscribed from only if they have not been used. |
Validity period | Each storage plan is valid for 1 to 11 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, or 5 years. Any remaining capacity in the storage plan becomes invalid after it expires. |
Storage plan specifications and prices
ApsaraDB for MongoDB offers two types of storage plans. The unit price for the China (Mainland) - General plan is CNY 0.0047/GB/hour. The unit price for the Hong Kong (China) and International - General plan is 1.1 times that of the China (Mainland) - General plan, which is CNY 0.00517/GB/hour. The discount you receive varies based on the plan's specifications and validity period. The following table lists the prices and discounts.
Storage plan capacity (GB) | Storage plan price (CNY/month) | Discount (compared to pay-as-you-go) | |

Storage plan offset rules
Total offsettable storage capacity = Storage plan capacity / Instance node coefficient.
Examples
Instance environment | Storage plan environment | Coefficient | Storage Plan Deductions |
Example 1 A single pay-as-you-go replica set instance with the following environment:
|
| Instance node coefficient: 2. | Total offsettable storage capacity: 100 GB / 2 = 50 GB. In this example, the total offsettable storage capacity (50 GB) is greater than or equal to the storage usage (40 GB). The storage plan can fully offset the storage costs. No extra payment is required. |
Example 2 Two pay-as-you-go replica set instances with the following environment:
| Total offsettable storage capacity: 100 GB / 2 = 50 GB. In this example, the total offsettable storage capacity (50 GB) is less than the total storage usage (50 GB + 100 GB). The storage plan can only offset 50 GB of storage costs. The excess 100 GB is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. |
Instance node coefficient
The instance node coefficient varies based on the number of nodes in the instance. The following table lists the coefficients for different numbers of nodes.
Number of primary and secondary nodes | Number of read-only nodes | Instance node coefficient |
Three nodes | No read-only nodes | 1 |
1 read-only node | 1.33 | |
2 read-only nodes | 1.67 | |
3 read-only nodes | 2 | |
4 read-only nodes | 2.33 | |
5 read-only nodes | 2.67 | |
Five nodes | No read-only nodes | 1.67 |
1 read-only node | 2 | |
2 read-only nodes | 2.33 | |
3 read-only nodes | 2.67 | |
4 read-only nodes | 3 | |
5 read-only nodes | 3.33 | |
Seven nodes | No read-only nodes | 2.33 |
1 read-only node | 2.67 | |
2 read-only nodes | 3 | |
3 read-only nodes | 3.33 | |
4 read-only nodes | 3.67 | |
5 read-only nodes | 4 |
