Get started with workflows

Create a workflow to produce videos with multiple bitrates, audio tracks, captions, or formats, or to run multiple jobs in a specific sequence or based on conditions. You can configure task nodes for transcoding, analysis, snapshots, packaging (encapsulation), content moderation, media fingerprint extraction, and smart thumbnails. This topic describes how to create a transcoding workflow in the ApsaraVideo Media Processing (MPS) console.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the ApsaraVideo Media Processing console and select a region.

  2. Add buckets.

In the left navigation pane, choose Workflow > Media Bucket. Configure an Input Bucket (where you upload source videos) and an Output Bucket (where processed files are saved). For more information, see Add media buckets.

  3. Enable an MPS queue.

In the left navigation pane, choose Global Settings > MPS Queue and Callback. Select and enable an MPS queue of the required type. For more information, see Create an MPS queue.

  4. (Optional) Create a template.

If the preset templates do not meet your requirements, create a custom transcoding template. For more information, see Transcoding templates.

  5. Create a workflow.

In the left navigation pane, choose Workflow > Workflow Orchestration and configure the required parameters. For more information, see Create a workflow.

  6. Upload files.

Upload video files from the MPS console or the Object Storage Service (OSS) console. Uploading from the OSS console is recommended. For more information, see Upload videos.

  7. Trigger the workflow.

After you configure the workflow, new videos uploaded to the input path automatically trigger processing if they meet the triggering rules. For videos already in the input path before the workflow was created, call the AddMedia operation to trigger the workflow manually. This prevents repeated transcoding.

  8. View the generated media files.

In the left navigation pane, choose Media Management > Media List. For more information, see Manage media.

To check the execution status of the workflow, see Execution instances.
