Audio and video transcoding fees

Updated at:

ApsaraVideo Media Processing (MPS) charges transcoding fees based on the output file specification and duration. Fees apply to standard transcoding, Narrowband HDTM 1.0, Narrowband HDTM 2.0, and feature API requests.

Transcoding pricing

The following tables list transcoding prices by specification. Prices shown use the Chinese mainland region as an example.

Note
  • Prices listed are for reference only. Actual prices on the Alibaba Cloud Pricing page prevail. The table below shows Chinese mainland prices; for other regions, visit the pricing page.

  • Resource plans are available for standard transcoding (including audio transcoding and container format conversion) and Narrowband HDTM 1.0 transcoding at discounted rates. Resource plans. No resource plans are available for other billable items.

  • The output specification is determined by the long side and short side of the output video resolution.

For example, SD (1280×720) means the long side is at most 1280 pixels and the short side is at most 720 pixels. If either side exceeds these limits, the video is classified as a higher specification.

  • Set the audio coding format to AC3 or EAC3 to produce Dolby audio. ApsaraVideo Player SDK enables Dolby playback on supported devices. Dolby sound effect production is billed at CNY 3.5/minute in the Chinese mainland, with no additional audio transcoding fees. Audio and video enhancement fees.

Billing rules

Rule

Description

Billing rule

Transcoding fees are based on the output file specification and duration for standard, Narrowband HDTM 1.0, and Narrowband HDTM 2.0 transcoding.

Note
  • If a task fails, no fees are charged.

  • Audio extraction, video extraction, video stitching, video clipping, and watermarking require transcoding and are billed as transcoding tasks. Snapshots and watermarks incur additional API request fees.

Billing cycle

Bills are generated hourly, typically within one hour after each billing cycle ends. Fees are automatically deducted from your account. If you have a resource plan, usage is deducted from the plan first.

Billing methods

  • Pay-as-you-go (for the Chinese mainland)

    • Transcoding: Fee per format = Output file duration (accurate to the second) × Unit price for that format.

    • API: API fee = Number of successful calls × Unit price of the billable item.

  • Resource plan

Transcoding resource plans cover standard transcoding and Narrowband HDTM 1.0 transcoding. Other transcoding types and API calls are not covered. For plan pricing and quotas, see Resource plans. Purchase a resource plan.

    Important

MPS transcoding resource plans are exclusive to MPS. They cannot offset fees for ApsaraVideo VOD or Intelligent Media Services.

Billing examples

Transcoding billing example

Example: You transcode a 200-minute H.264 video in the Chinese mainland between 8:00 and 9:00 using standard transcoding and Narrowband HDTM 1.0 transcoding in normal-speed mode. Standard transcoding outputs at LD (640×480) and Narrowband HDTM 1.0 outputs at SD (1280×720). Fee = 200 min × CNY 0.0217/min + 200 min × CNY 0.0977/min = CNY 23.88.

Feature API request billing example

Example: 1,000 successful SubmitMediaInfoJob calls in the Chinese mainland. Fee = 1,000 × CNY 0.10/1,000 = CNY 0.10.
