High-speed transcoding

Updated at:

You can accelerate transcoding jobs by submitting them to a high-speed MPS queue. This service incurs an additional fee in addition to standard audio and video transcoding or enhancement fees. The additional fee depends on the output video specifications, duration, and the actual speed multiplier. This topic describes the billing for high-speed transcoding.

Pricing

Note

High-speed MPS queues created after February 14, 2023 will be billed starting March 30, 2023.

Billing rules

Rule Project

Description

Billing rule

Fees are based on the actual speed tier achieved.

  • There are four billing tiers for speed: 5x, 10x, 20x, and 30x. The actual speed is rounded down to the nearest tier. If the actual speed is less than 5x, or if the system determines that the job is not suitable for high-speed transcoding, no high-speed transcoding fee is charged. If the actual speed is greater than 30x, the job is billed at the 30x tier.

  • Actual speed = Video duration / Processing time.

    Note

Video duration is the total duration of the output video. Processing time is the total time from when the job is submitted to when it is completed.

  • The output specification is determined by the resolution of the output video. For example, a video is considered HD (1920×1080) if its long side does not exceed 1920 pixels and its short side does not exceed 1080 pixels. If either side exceeds these dimensions, the video is classified under a higher specification.

Billing cycle

Bills are generated on an hourly basis. A bill is typically generated one hour after the current billing cycle ends, but the actual time may vary based on the system. Fees are automatically deducted after a bill is generated.

Billing method

Pay-as-you-go: The total fee is the sum of the transcoding fees for all formats. The fee for a single format is the duration of the output file multiplied by the unit price for that format. For example, if you use high-speed transcoding mode for standard transcoding, you are charged for both the standard transcoding fee and the high-speed transcoding fee.

Billing example

Assume you transcode a video in a region in the Chinese mainland between 8:00 and 9:00. The source video uses H.264 encoding and is 200 minutes long. You use high-speed transcoding mode to perform both standard transcoding and Narrowband HD™ 1.0 transcoding. The standard transcoding job outputs a video with LD (640×480) resolution and achieves a 30x speedup. The Narrowband HD™ 1.0 transcoding job outputs a video with SD (1280×720) resolution and achieves a 5.5x speedup.

The transcoding fee incurred between 8:00 and 9:00 is: 200 minutes × 0.0217 CNY/minute + 200 minutes × 0.0977 CNY/minute + 200 minutes × 0.0434 CNY/minute + 200 minutes × 0.0163 CNY/minute = 35.82 CNY.
