Configuring a DNS server for a service provides efficient and secure internal domain name resolution, which ensures the stability and reliability of your internal services. This lets you centralize the management of internal service domains and prevent disruptions from external DNS failures or network fluctuations.

Use cases

  • Custom DNS: Configure custom DNS servers to meet specific internal resolution requirements.

  • Internal service resolution: When backend services are in a VPC, the gateway uses an internal DNS server to correctly route requests.

  • Hybrid cloud environments: Manage DNS resolution for internal and external services in a unified way.

Limitations

You can add a maximum of five DNS servers.

Entry points

The entry point varies by scenario:

Add service

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Cloud-native Gateway > Gateways.

  3. On the Gateways page, click the ID of the gateway.

  4. In the left-side navigation pane, click Routes. Then, click the Services tab.

Configure DNS servers

Note

Currently, the service source only supports DNS domain names.

  1. Click More Settings, and then click Click to automatically specify DNS server IP addresses.

When you activate the Private DNS service, Alibaba Cloud automatically assigns Private DNS server addresses to your VPC. The system automatically populates two Private DNS server addresses. The DNS server list supports a maximum of five addresses. You can click the Add button to manually add more addresses.

  2. Alternatively, click Add to manually add a DNS server.

Enter each address in IP:port format, such as 100.xxx.x.136:53. A maximum of five DNS servers are supported.
