Create a namespace

Use namespaces in a specific region to isolate resources and services and enhance security. Namespaces help prevent conflicts between resources and services and simplify management and maintenance to improve efficiency. This topic describes how to create a namespace.

Notes

  • Creating too many namespaces in a single instance increases the blast radius, which can cause large-scale impacts and strain the database, affecting the instance's Service-Level Agreement (SLA).

  • Create namespaces for an instance based on strong isolation requirements, such as for different environments or usage scenarios. Keep the number of namespaces to 10 or fewer.

  • When you create an instance, MSE automatically generates a default namespace named public. This namespace cannot be modified or deleted. If you do not create any other namespaces, you can use this default namespace to isolate your resources and services.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the MSE console, and select a region in the top navigation bar.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Microservices Registry > Instances.

  3. On the Instances page, click the name of the instance.

  4. In the navigation pane on the left, click Namespace.

  5. On the Namespace page, click Create namespace. In the Create namespace dialog box, set the Namespace Name and Namespace ID, and then click OK.

The new namespace appears in the list. You can view its details, such as Configuration Count and Active Service Count.

What to do next

After you create the namespace, perform the following operations as needed in the Actions column of the namespace list.

  • View: Click View to see the namespace details.

  • Edit: Click Edit and follow the prompts to modify the namespace.

  • Delete: Click Delete and follow the prompts to delete the namespace.
