Lifecycle policies automatically tier infrequently accessed files in General-purpose NAS file systems to lower-cost storage classes based on last access time.
Prerequisites
Review the limits and considerations for lifecycle management. For more information, see Lifecycle management.
Billing
-
Infrequent Access (IA) Storage class billing
-
IA storage capacity fees: Based on the amount of data tiered to IA storage and the storage duration.
-
IA storage read/write fees: Based on total hourly read and write traffic, including both internal and public network traffic.
-
-
Archive Storage class billing
-
Archive storage capacity fees: Based on the amount of data tiered to Archive storage and the storage duration.
-
Minimum storage duration fee: Archive storage has a 60-day (1,440-hour) minimum retention period. If you delete data or reduce its size before this period expires, you are charged for the remaining time (1,440 hours minus actual storage duration) based on the original data size.
-
Archive storage read/write fees: Based on total hourly read and write traffic, including both internal and public network traffic.
-
Create a lifecycle policy
-
Log on to the NAS console.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Lifecycle Management > Lifecycle Policies.
-
In the top navigation bar, select the resource group and region where your file system resides.

-
On the Lifecycle Policies page, click Create Lifecycle Policy.
-
In the Create Lifecycle Policy dialog box, configure the following parameters.
Parameter
Description
Policy Name
Must be 3–64 characters, start with a letter, and can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
File System ID
Select a file system by using Fuzzy Search or Exact Search.
Apply To
Specify the directories or the entire file system for the policy. You can specify up to 10 directory paths.
-
/ the entire file system: Apply the policy to all files in the file system.
-
Select Directory Paths: Click Select Directory Paths, choose the file or directory paths, and then click the
icon. -
Enter Directory Paths: The path must start with a forward slash (/) and can contain letters, digits, spaces, and these special characters:
./+-=*@%().
NoteLifecycle policies tier cold data files without changing the directory structure. For example, if the /test directory contains a file named a1, you can still access it from the /test path after tiering. New data written to the directory is also subject to the policy.
Management Rule
Set rules based on last access time to specify the target storage class:
-
Transition to IA storage: For data accessed infrequently, such as once or twice per month. Valid values (days since last access): 14, 30, 60, 90.
-
Transition to Archive storage: For long-term retention, such as compliance or audit data. Valid values (days since last access): 14, 30, 60, 90, 180.
-
Transition to IA storage, then to Archive storage: Set the IA transition time, click Add Rule, then set the Archive transition time. The Archive period must be longer than the IA period.
Files unaccessed for the specified number of days are automatically tiered to IA or Archive storage.
Important-
Currently, Archive Storage is available only in the following regions: China (Chengdu), China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Qingdao), China (Beijing), China (Zhangjiakou), China (Hohhot), China (Ulanqab),China (Shenzhen), China (Heyuan), China (Guangzhou), China (Hong Kong), Philippines (Manila), Thailand (Bangkok), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), South Korea (Seoul), US (Silicon Valley), Indonesia (Jakarta), Japan (Tokyo), UK (London), Singapore, US (Virginia), and Germany (Frankfurt).
-
Lifecycle policies tier only files between 64 KiB and 4.88 TiB. Files outside this range are skipped.
-
-
Click OK.
Data migration begins two hours after you create the policy.
View lifecycle policies
-
Log on to the NAS console.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Lifecycle Management > Lifecycle Policies .
-
In the top navigation bar, select the resource group and region where your file system resides.
-
On the Lifecycle Policies page, view lifecycle policies for the selected region.

Description |
|
Modify a lifecycle policy |
On the Lifecycle Policies page, find the target lifecycle policy and click Modify. Only the Management Rule can be modified. After you save changes, the new rule takes effect in the next scan cycle. |
|
Delete a lifecycle policy |
On the Lifecycle Policies page, find the target lifecycle policy and click Delete. Follow the prompts to delete the policy. Important
Deleting a policy does not remove data already in IA or Archive storage. To avoid ongoing charges, retrieve the data before deleting the policy. For more information, see Create a data retrieval task. |
