Create O&M items by using default rules

Default rules are pre-configured rules in CloudOps Orchestration Service (OOS) based on best practices for event-driven operations. Enable them with a single click to automatically create O&M items when matching events occur.

Default rules

  • How it works

When you enable a default rule in Operation Center, OOS automatically creates a corresponding event rule in EventBridge. When EventBridge detects a matching event, OOS creates an O&M item based on the rule, allowing you to centrally manage and respond to these events in Operation Center.

  • Supported default rules (event rules)

    • ECS instance Shutdown (System Error)

    • ECS instance Shutdown (System Maintenance)

    • Auto Scaling: Scale-out Activity Failure in scaling group

    • Auto Scaling: Scale-in Activity Failure in scaling group

    • ApsaraDB RDS instance Migration

    • ApsaraDB RDS instance Scheduled O&M Event

    • ApsaraDB RDS instance Minor Version Upgrade

    • OOS Execution Failure

Roles and permissions

  • Service-linked role (AliyunServiceRoleForOOSOpsCenter)

When you create a default rule, OOS automatically creates and authorizes a service-linked role. No manual action is required. This role lets OOS call EventBridge API operations to manage the corresponding event rules. For more information about the OOS service-linked role, see service-linked role policy (AliyunServiceRolePolicyForOOSOpsCenter).

  • EventBridge service role (AliyunEventBridgeGenerateOpsItemForOpsCenterRole)

EventBridge assumes this service role in your account to create O&M items. You must grant the AliyunOOSFullAccess permission to this role. If you have not authorized this role, do so before creating a default rule.

Create a default rule

  1. Log in to the CloudOps Orchestration Service console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Operation Center.

  3. On the Operation Center page, click the Settings tab, and then click Create Default Rule.

  4. Select the default rules that you want to create, and then authorize the EventBridge service role.

    Note

If you have already authorized the EventBridge service role, skip this step.

    1. On the Create Default Rule page, click Authorize.

    2. On the RAM Quick Authorization page, grant the AliyunOOSFullAccess permission to the EventBridge service role, and then click Agree to Authorization.

    3. After the role is authorized, click Console to return to the Create Default Rule page.

  5. On the Create Default Rule page, click Create.

You can enable all default rules or select specific ones. When you enable a rule, OOS automatically creates a corresponding event rule in EventBridge.

  6. After the default rules are created, you are redirected to the Settings page, where you can view the created rules.

After the default rules are created, OOS automatically creates O&M items whenever EventBridge detects matching events. You can view these items on the O&M Items tab. For more information, see View O&M items.

View, modify, or delete a default rule

View default rule

After a default rule is created, you can view the details of its corresponding event rule in EventBridge.

  1. Go to the Operation Center page in the OOS console.

  2. Click the Settings tab, find the default rule that you want to view and click Details in the Actions column.

On the event rule details page, you can view the basic information, event target, and event pattern of the rule.

Modify default rule

After a default rule is created, you can modify its properties, such as the category (Availability, Cost, Performance, Resilience, or Security), severity (Low, Medium, High, or Serious), and status (Enabled or Disabled).

Important

After a default rule is created, modify it only in the OOS console. Do not modify its corresponding event rule in the EventBridge console, as this can cause configuration conflicts.

  1. Go to the Operation Center page in the OOS console.

  2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Modify in the upper-right corner of the page.

  3. Find the default rule that you want to modify, and change its category, severity, or status.

  4. Click Save.

  5. In the dialog box that appears, confirm the configuration update and click OK.

Delete default rule

If you no longer need a default rule, you can delete it.

  1. Go to the Operation Center page in the OOS console.

  2. Click the Settings tab, find the default rule that you want to delete and click Delete in the Actions column.
