Billing methods
Billing method | Description |
Subscription | Also known as upfront payment. You pay for the instance when you create it. This method is more cost-effective than pay-as-you-go. Subscription instances cannot be released early at this time. You cannot change the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go. |
Pay-as-you-go | Also known as post-payment. A bill is generated for your usage every hour. All hourly bills are part of a single order. Fees are deducted from your Alibaba Cloud account based on the bill generated when the order was created. You can change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription. |
Pricing (General fees)
OpenSearch Industry Algorithm Edition charges for application instances. Four instance types are available for different scenarios. The total fee for each instance type is the sum of three components: instance rental fees, storage capacity fees, and compute resource fees. Total fee = Instance rental fee + Storage capacity fee + Compute resource fee.

For detailed pricing information, see the Pricing overview.
When you view application details or create an application using an API or SDK, the quota specifications are named as follows: Shared cluster - General-purpose (opensearch.share.common), Dedicated cluster - Compute-optimized (opensearch.private.compute), Dedicated cluster - Storage-optimized (opensearch.private.storage), and Dedicated cluster - General-purpose (opensearch.private.common).
Bill description: For pay-as-you-go instances, the billable items are: consumption.portal.opensearch.spec/buytype: Instance rental (CNY/hour), consumption.portal.opensearch.doc_size/storage: Price per GB of storage (CNY/hour), and consumption.portal.opensearch.compute_resource/compute: Price per LCU (CNY/hour). For subscription instances, the billable items are: buytype: Instance rental (CNY/month), storage: Price per GB of storage (CNY/month), and compute: Price per LCU (CNY/month).
Industry templates are free of charge in all regions during the public preview period. Fees will be adjusted after the official release.
Pricing (Model training fees)
OpenSearch Industry Algorithm Edition provides model services such as custom analyzers. If a model is not listed in the table below, it is in public preview and is free of charge.
Models do not incur instance rental fees. The storage capacity that they consume is included in the total storage of the instance.
If a model is referenced in a search request, the compute resources consumed by the search request are included in the total compute resources of the instance.
Each time a model is trained, you are charged for the consumed billable hours on a pay-as-you-go basis. This applies to both subscription and pay-as-you-go instances.
Model type | Storage capacity | Compute resources | Model training price (CNY/billable hour) | Estimated billable hours for model training |
Text analyzer model | Each version of an analyzer model uses 1 GB of storage. | Each search request consumes an additional 2 LCU. Each search result returned consumes 0.01 LCU. | 3.87 | Training with the minimum amount of data consumes 250 billable hours. To request more training resources, contact technical support. |
Term weighting model | Each version of a term weighting model uses 1 GB of storage. | Each search request consumes 10 LCU. | 3.87 | Training with the minimum amount of data consumes 250 billable hours. To request more training resources, contact technical support. |
Synonym model | Each version of a synonym model uses 1 GB of storage. | Each search request consumes 5 LCU. | 3.87 | Training with the minimum amount of data consumes 250 billable hours. To request more training resources, contact technical support. |
Drop-down suggestion - Historical search terms | - | - | 3.87 | Training with the minimum amount of data consumes 2 billable hours. To request more training resources, contact technical support. |
Real-time top searches | Each real-time hint model uses 1 GB of storage. | - | 3.87 | Training with the minimum amount of data consumes 2 billable hours. |
Personalized hints | Each personalized hint model uses 1 GB of storage. | - | 3.87 | Training with the minimum amount of data consumes 2 billable hours. |
Note:
Billable hours = Model training time (in hours) × Number of CPU cores used for training
By default, text analyzer models and term weighting models are trained using the minimum amount of sample data (100 MB). To request more training resources, you can submit a ticket to contact technical support. If you increase the training resources, the billable hours consumed by model training also increase.
Selection guide
Choose a specification: For a comparison between shared and dedicated cluster types, see Comparison between General-purpose shared and dedicated clusters.

Choose a quota:
Quota item | Description | Estimation method |
Storage quota | The actual capacity used by documents that are synced to OpenSearch. | The storage quota is calculated based on the actual number of bytes configured in OpenSearch. |
Compute quota (LCU) | A Logic Compute Unit (LCU) is a unit that measures search computing power. One LCU represents the computing power of 0.01 CPU cores in a search cluster. | Number of LCUs = QPS × LCUs consumed per query. You can test and view the LCUs consumed per query in the search test feature. |
When you select the storage quota for the first time, you can estimate the required quota by multiplying the number of documents by the average size of a single document to determine the total size in bytes.
When you select the LCU quota for the first time, you can start with the minimum LCU for the selected specification. After the application is created and enters the testing phase, you can check the LCU usage in Cloud Monitor and scale out as needed.
Upgrades or downgrades take effect immediately and do not affect the search service.
