Precautions

Serverless clusters use the pay-as-you-go billing method by default, which cannot be changed.

Note
Non-Serverless clusters (subscription or pay-as-you-go clusters) cannot be directly converted to Serverless clusters. You can migrate to a Serverless cluster or enable the Serverless feature. For more information, see FAQ.
Ensure your account has a sufficient balance to prevent service disruption from overdue payments after you switch to the pay-as-you-go billing method.

Impacts

Changing the billing method does not affect your business operations.

Fees

When you change the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go, we refund the fee for the unused subscription period to your original payment source. Only the actual amount you paid is refunded. Used vouchers or coupons will not be returned. Switch from subscription to pay-as-you-go

Prerequisites

The cluster is in the Running state.
The cluster is not undergoing a temporary upgrade and has no scheduled specification changes.

Procedure

Go to the PolarDB console > Clusters page. Find the target cluster and click More > Switch to Pay-As-You-Go in the Operation column.

Note

If you cannot find the target cluster, ensure the correct region is selected in the top-left corner.

Switch from pay-as-you-go to subscription

Prerequisites

The cluster is in the Running state.
No unpaid orders exist for the cluster. If an unpaid order exists, go to the Expenses and Costs > Order > My Orders page to pay for or cancel the order.
Some legacy specifications, such as dedicated specifications with 2 cores and 4 GB of memory, are no longer sold. You cannot directly change the billing method of clusters with these specifications to subscription. You must first manually change specifications and then switch to the subscription billing method.

Procedure

Go to the PolarDB console > Clusters page. Find the target cluster, and click More > Monthly or annual sublease in the Operation column.

If you cannot find the target cluster, ensure the correct region is selected in the top-left corner.
This operation creates a conversion order. The switch takes effect only after you pay for the order.
If payment fails or is not completed, an unfinished order appears on your orders page. This order prevents you from purchasing new clusters or switching to a subscription. To proceed, you must pay for or cancel this order.
If the Storage Type is PSL4 or PSL5:
- If you originally purchased a cluster using the pay-as-you-go billing method, you cannot change the billing method for its storage space to subscription. When you switch the cluster's compute nodes from pay-as-you-go to subscription, the storage space is not converted to subscription. It remains on a pay-as-you-go basis.
- However, if your cluster was previously switched from a [subscription for compute nodes and subscription for storage] model to a [pay-as-you-go for compute nodes and pay-as-you-go for storage] model, the storage space is also switched back to subscription when you perform the Monthly or annual sublease operation.
If the Storage Type is Storage Type, the storage space also switches to subscription.

FAQ

Pending order error

Go to the Expenses and Costs > Order > My Orders page to check for renewal orders that have not yet taken effect. To cancel an order that has not taken effect, go to the Expenses and Costs > Order > Resource Unsubscription page and perform the Unsubscribe action.

Can I switch from a subscription or pay-as-you-go cluster to serverless?

Two options are available:

Enable the serverless feature on your existing cluster. See Serverless feature for clusters with defined specifications.
Migrate data to a new serverless cluster using Data Transmission Service (DTS). See Migrate data between PolarDB for MySQL clusters.

Can non-Serverless clusters (subscription or pay-as-you-go) be upgraded to Serverless clusters?

Yes, you can enable the Serverless feature on a non-Serverless cluster (subscription or pay-as-you-go). For more information, see Serverless feature for clusters with fixed specifications.
