Map services

Updated at:

GeoServer is a J2EE implementation of the OpenGIS Web Server specification. It lets you easily publish map data, and update, delete, and insert feature data. You can use GeoServer to quickly share geospatial information.

GeoServer conforms to both the Web Map Service (WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS) standards from the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). It supports data sources such as PostgreSQL, Shapefile, ArcSDE, Oracle, VPF, MySQL, and MapInfo, along with hundreds of projections. GeoServer can produce maps in various formats, such as JPEG, GIF, PNG, SVG, and KML. GeoServer can run in any J2EE or servlet-based container. It is integrated with OpenLayers, a mapping library that lets you use Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) requests to create maps in Map Builder. GeoServer also provides many other features.

Note

Download GeoServer separately. Use GeoServer 2.14.2 or a later version.

Decompress the downloaded package and place the extracted files into the webapps/geoserver/WEB-INFO/lib directory. Then, start the container.
