This topic describes how to purchase a compute plan with defined specifications.

Notes

  • Compute plans with defined specifications are not region-specific and automatically deduct fees for compute nodes of pay-as-you-go clusters in all regions.

  • Each compute plan with defined specifications is valid for 1, 3, or 5 years. Any remaining capacity in the compute plan automatically expires after the validity period ends.

  • If the remaining compute capacity in the plan is insufficient to cover usage, the excess compute node fees are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis.

  • Compute plans with defined specifications do not support renewal, upgrades, or downgrades. If a plan has insufficient capacity, is about to expire, or has expired, you can purchase an additional plan.

  • After you purchase a compute plan with defined specifications, the compute nodes of your pay-as-you-go clusters are no longer billed on an hourly basis. Instead, usage is deducted hourly from the compute plan in compute unit-hours (CU*H).

Procedure

  1. Go to the PolarDB purchase page to purchase a compute plan with defined specifications.

  2. On the PolarDB Compute Plan purchase page, set the following parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Applicable database type

This is fixed to PolarDB and does not need to be selected. The plan can be used to deduct the compute node fees of pay-as-you-go PolarDB for PostgreSQL clusters.

    Compute plan specifications

    • 5 to 800 degrees.

    • 800-5,000 (degree).

    • 5000-20000 (degree).

    Note

A CU*H is a compute unit-hour, which is the unit of compute. The list price for a compute plan with defined specifications is CNY 38 per CU*H.

    Compute plan capacity

Select the required capacity for the compute plan with defined specifications.

Estimation formula: Compute usage per node per hour × Number of hours × Number of nodes

    For example, for a two-node cluster with 2 cores and 8 GB of memory used for 330 days, the required capacity is 158.4 CU*H (0.01 CU*H × 24 hours × 330 days × 2 nodes).

    Note

For information about the hourly compute usage for different node specifications, see Billing rules for compute plans with defined specifications.

    Effective time

    • Takes Effect Immediately After Purchase: The storage plan is activated immediately after purchase and can be used to offset charges for relevant objects.

    • Effective at a specified time (hourly): The plan takes effect at a specified time. Its Duration also starts from the specified time.

    Duration

    • For a compute plan with defined specifications of 5 to 800 (CU*H), the validity period is 1 or 2 years.

    • For a compute plan with defined specifications of 800 to 5,000 (CU*H), the validity period is 1 or 3 years.

    • For a compute plan with defined specifications of 5,000 to 20,000 (CU*H), the validity period is 1, 3, or 5 years.

    Note

A compute plan with defined specifications takes effect immediately after purchase. Any remaining capacity automatically expires after the validity period ends.

    Quantity

Set the number of compute plans with defined specifications to purchase. You can purchase up to 50 plans at a time.

  3. Read and select the Terms of Service, and then click Buy Now.

    Note

After you complete the payment, the compute node fees for all pay-as-you-go PolarDB for PostgreSQL clusters under your account are automatically deducted from the compute plan with defined specifications. For more information about how to view the deducted amount, see View the deducted amount of a compute plan with defined specifications.

Example of capacity assessment for a compute plan with defined specifications

Billing Plan

Sample requirement

Estimated compute usage (CU*H)

Pay-as-you-go + Compute plan with defined specifications

  • The cluster is in a region in the Chinese mainland.

  • Specification A (two nodes): Used for 330 days.

  • Upgraded to Specification B (two nodes) during a sales promotion: Used for 30 days.

  • One node of Specification B is added during the sales promotion: Used for 30 days.

Note

In this example, Specification A is 2 cores and 8 GB of memory, and Specification B is 4 cores and 16 GB of memory.

Estimated required capacity = Compute usage per node per hour × Number of hours × Number of nodes

  • Specification A: 158.4 degrees

    0.01 degrees × 24 hours × 330 days × 2 nodes = 158.4 degrees

  • Specification B: 86.4 degrees

    0.04 degrees × 24 hours × 30 days × 3 nodes = 86.4 degrees

Note

0.01 CU*H and 0.04 CU*H are the hourly compute usage for Specification A and Specification B, respectively. For information about the compute usage required for different node specifications, see Consumption rules for compute plans with defined specifications.

In this example, the total capacity of the compute plan with defined specifications must be at least 244.8 CU*H (158.4 CU*H + 86.4 CU*H). To account for potential business fluctuations, add a buffer of about 5%. Therefore, a compute plan with a capacity of 260 CU*H is sufficient.

The purchased capacity is less than 800 CU*H, so the price is CNY 34.2 per CU*H. The total cost of the compute plan is CNY 8,892 (260 CU*H × CNY 34.2/CU*H). If the capacity exceeds 800 CU*H or 5,000 CU*H, you receive a 15% or 30% discount, respectively.
