PolarDB for PostgreSQL (distributed edition) compute resources include compute nodes (CNs) and data nodes (DNs). This product supports three billing methods: pay-as-you-go with defined specifications compute plans (recommended), pay-as-you-go, and subscription. The price varies based on the node specifications and the billing method.
Compute resource nodes are available in two series: General-purpose and Dedicated.
General-purpose: Clusters on the same server share idle compute resources, such as CPU. This resource sharing provides cost savings.
Dedicated: Each cluster has exclusive access to its allocated compute resources, such as CPU, and does not share them with other clusters on the same server. This provides more stable and reliable performance.
When you purchase a cluster, one read-only node is added by default for the primary CN and the primary DN. The specifications of this read-only node are the same as those of the primary CN and primary DN in the primary zone or primary data center. This node is billed separately.
You receive a 25% discount on the unit price of each read-only node added to a CN/DN.
Pay-as-you-go with defined specifications compute plans (Recommended)
The pay-as-you-go with defined specifications compute plans billing method lets you purchase a compute plan to offset the costs of your pay-as-you-go cluster nodes. This is the recommended billing method.
PolarDB uses Capacity Units (CUs) to measure the computing power of cluster nodes. It uses CU-hours (degrees) to measure the amount of computing resources that a defined specifications compute plan provides. A defined specifications compute plan costs CNY 38 per degree. PolarDB offers defined specifications compute plans with different capacities. The capacity ranges are as follows:

Small-capacity defined specifications compute plan: 5 to 799 degrees

Medium-capacity defined specifications compute plan: 800 to 4,999 degrees

Large-capacity compute plan with defined specifications: 5,000 to 20,000 degrees

Pay-as-you-go
With the pay-as-you-go billing method, you do not pay upfront when you create a database cluster. Instead, you are charged for the compute resources that you use. The compute nodes and data nodes of the cluster are billed hourly, and fees are deducted from your account on an hourly basis.
