Billable items
PolarDB-X charges for instance specifications and storage. Columnstore index and Global Database Network (GDN) are optional add-ons available for Enterprise Edition.
Overview
| Billable item | Required | Billing methods |
|---|---|---|
| Primary instance specifications | Yes | Subscription or pay-as-you-go |
| Read-only instance specifications | No | Subscription or pay-as-you-go |
| Storage space | Yes | Pay-as-you-go or subscription |
| Columnstore index (Columnar) | No | Subscription or pay-as-you-go (planned) |
| Global Database Network (GDN) | No | Subscription or pay-as-you-go |
Primary instance specifications
The primary instance fee covers all nodes in the instance:
Enterprise Edition: (unit price of compute node specifications × number of compute nodes) + (unit price of data node specifications × number of data nodes)
Standard Edition: based on node specifications
Prices vary by region, instance type, and storage space. To view current prices, go to the purchase page. For billing method details, see Billing methods.
If storage billing is set to Pay-as-you-go, pay-as-you-go charges apply to the storage portion even for subscription instances.
Read-only instance specifications
Read-only instances are available for Enterprise Edition only. Standard Edition does not support read-only instances.
The fee is calculated the same way as a primary instance: (unit price of compute node specifications × number of compute nodes) + (unit price of data node specifications × number of data nodes).
Prices vary by region, instance type, and storage space. To view current prices, go to the purchase page. For billing method details, see Billing methods.
If storage billing is set to Pay-as-you-go, pay-as-you-go charges apply to the storage portion even for subscription instances.
Storage space
Storage space covers data stored across primary instances, read-only instances, and secondary clusters in a GDN.
For pricing details, see Storage space prices.
Backups
Definition: The fee for the storage space that is used by backup files. Backup files are generated from automatic and manual backups of PolarDB-X instances.
Required:
Basic backup: Yes.
Geo-redundancy: No.
Billing method: Backup storage is free of charge up to the free quota. If the backup storage usage exceeds the free quota, you are charged for the excess storage on an hourly basis. The free quota is as follows:
Instances that use local disks: 50% of the actual storage space of an instance.
Pricing:

Columnstore index (Columnar)
Columnstore index is a value-added service for Enterprise Edition that accelerates analytical queries. The feature is free during public preview.
Index storage in Object Storage Service (OSS) is billed separately, even while the feature itself is free.
Global Database Network (GDN)
Global Database Network is a value-added service for Enterprise Edition that enables cross-region local reads and disaster recovery switchovers.
GDN has two cost components:
| Component | Pricing |
|---|---|
| Instance specifications and storage | Billed the same as standard instances. To view prices, go to the purchase page. |
| Cross-region network traffic | Free of charge |
Cold data archiving
Definition: A value-added service for PolarDB-X Enterprise Edition that automatically archives cold data based on a configured time-based policy. This service significantly reduces storage costs and allows all data to be queried online using SQL.
Required: No.
Billing method: Billing is based on storage usage.
Pricing: CNY 0.000167 per GB per hour.
Public network traffic
Definition: The inbound and outbound traffic generated when connecting to a PolarDB-X instance through a public endpoint.
Required: No.
Billing method: Free of charge.
Description: Applying for a public endpoint is free. Both inbound and outbound traffic through the public endpoint are free of charge. You can apply for a public endpoint in the console and connect to your database from on-premises or non-ECS environments without incurring additional network fees.
